@San Antonio Gal Their primer was a little more liquidy than most, so partially to set that and prevent foundation from breaking up, but also to make it last all day.

Absolutely none!

I've seen multiple YouTubers recommend doing it this way. I think the first person I saw years ago was Wayne Goss. I've tried it and I like it a lot. The trick is to use a very light dusting of powder. I use a dry beauty blender or a puff with a loose powder and gently press it on my skin - mostly in my t-zone where I have large pores/oiliness.
I've never had any problem with it balling up or looking cakey. The first time I saw it I also thought it sounded weird, but it looks very nice.

It's something we did a long time ago but kind of came back about 5 years ago. We did it in the 80's and 90's to get a flawless, porcelain doll type of look but more natural. After preparing your skin for foundation you apply loose powder, (not a heavy covering) and then apply your foundation.
It partially works like today's primer to fill in pores, fine lines and makes your foundation wear longer. You will use less foundation to achieve coverage and not need to touch up your foundation as frequently or at all. In the earlier era it could create a softer matte finish but didn't give a masked powdery look like Max Factor's water activated pan cake and others.
In the later half of the 90's foundations like Lancome's Teint Idole and Lauder's Double Wear came on the market, they had improved silicone ingredients that didn't evaporate away leaving patchy areas of makeup, were transfer free, long wearing and provided a more natural matte finish than before.

I've seen videos of that type of application. Can't remember if I actually tried it or not. Either I didn't or I did and wasn't impressed. It might have been on Wayne Goss' channel. @JeanLouiseFinch please let us know how you like it and what products you used.

Well thank you for enlightening us. I didn't realize the technique had been around that long. I may give it a try.

@ECBG The only instance it would work IMHO is if you had quite oily skin and used a lot of moisturizer, a moisturizing SPF and needed to powder and set....but then applying a liquid foundation? I could see a powder on top of powder though.

I watched Doris Dalton do this once on a Doll 10 show. I believe that she said that she does this for professional makeup sessions for celebrities. She said that it was something that she learned to keep the makeup set for the day.

I was just going to ask about this - if anyone saw it last night or has tried it.
I recently started using a new Roc serum. After applying my moisturizer over it then IT CC cream (which I love) my face feels too moist. It takes pretty long to "dry down." Even before I started using the serum I found the CC cream too moist as much as I love it. I have to wait awhile before I apply finishing powder. So I thought I'd try using a light dusting of powder after my moisturizer before the CC cream. I don't use primer.
