I started with the lowest % twice a week. I'm not having any flaking etc . I'm really surprised because I have very dry sensitive skin. I've been doing it twice a week for over a month now and I guess I need to bump it up to three times a week. I would love to get results without the side effects but I'm thinking I'm not going to get results if I don't see anything going on. Wanted comments from others who use retin-a. Thanks, ![]()

I have been using Retin-A for years (Tazorac for the past decade or so). I love it and my skin is very good. I actually started it more for breakouts than wrinkles. It isn't supposed to make you red and flake and peel. Yes, it's working but since you're not having problems, I would bump it up to every other day. It's a great product.

If you're new to it and tolerating it well, I agree with the rec to bump it up to every other day use.
When I first started using it I felt the same, meh. No results because I had no flaking. I took the recommended break after two weeks of use and applied a heavy night cream.
OMG, I woke up that next morning and it looked like it snowed on my face! The moisturizer on the break was what I needed to get things going.

@Snowpuppy Hi. Never heard of the 2 wk. break. I’ve used RX strength for maybe 35 yrs. before recommended for wrinkles. Followed derm advice to begin twice a week, worked up to 3 or 4 in summer when skin is not as dry (***Retin A makes your skin more sun sensitive. Bump up to higher spf). Use it 2 or 3 nights in winter. Moisturizer on other nights.

Shanus, I never heard of a 2 week break either. I was told to keep going and use it as much as my skin can tolerate it.

Mine as well. Just because it isn't flaking the heck out of your skin or causing other noticeable side effects doesn't mean it isn't doing something. 😊

Right now I'm using 0.05% cream tretinoin (Retino-A). But I did not start there. I started using an otc retinol (1%) for about a year during which, in the beginning, I had experienced redness and peeling that decreased over time until there was none about a year later. At that point I decided to try the 0.05% tretinoin as I felt the retinol was at a plateau for me. I started using the tretinoin once a week for the first month, then twice a week for the following month after that until about six months had passed. All this time I did have a little redness and some peeling but I never stopped to take a break from using the tretinoin....that is something you should not do. It needs to be applied consistently so your skin can adjust to it. If you stop to take breaks then it's like starting all over again and your skin will act the same as when you first started using it.
After about eight months or so, I finally got to the point of using the tretinoin every other night with no problems to be speak of. I do have ocassional flaking but no redness. I'm in my third year of using it.![]()
