Re: Powder Foundation question

@VenturaHighway  I will take a look at Iredale but not now, I purchased Avon to see if I like this kind of foundation.  I currently use Laura Mercier's oil free tinted moisturizer which is lovely.  But I would like to have a really easy back up (swipe and run) lol.  Thanks.

Re: Powder Foundation question

To all you Beauties.  Thank you for your suggestions and/or information of what you use.  For now, I purchased Avon to see how I like it.  It's a cream to powder foundation and it is very, very reasonable so before I go spending $$, I will try Avon out.  It must be popular because shades are out of stock.

Re: Powder Foundation question

Age can play a factor but it's really about your skin and the foundation. All powder foundations can't be lumped together.. I'm 60, a foundation fanatic and the MAC Studio Fix powder foundation is fabulous on me. On the other hand, Laura Geller Balance N Brighten does not work on me unless I mist my brush. The NYX Matte not Flat powder foundation also looks terrific on my skin.

Re: Powder Foundation question

I’m going to be 62 & I think a primer or a good moisturizer on your face beforehand, helps the powder adhere to the primer/moisturizer & not your skin directly. Using a light hand helps avoid the cakeyness seen with some foundations too.

I like either the Bare Minerals BarePro powder foundation or Lancôme Dual Finish foundation.

I just got color matched for a summer shade of the Dual Finish due to me getting some sun. The MU artist told me that your undertone doesn’t change no matter how light or dark your skin looks. He said I have pink & yellow undertones so that makes me neutral. I went from Clair II to Amande III.

Re: Powder Foundation question

My goodness age has nothing to do with being able to wear a powder foundation. It's all about your own complexion and choosing th right powder foundation for your skin.  I'm getting up in my 60s and have worn Lancome's Dual Finish since it's debut (I was in my 30s). Thankfully the color selection has advanced tremendously since then.  I use to have to mix Honey with a colored setting powder from Fashion Fair.  Pur Minerals 4-in-1 powder foundation is another one which is regularly in my makeup case.  As much as I love both of those powders, the one my skin is liking currently liking the most is Bare Minerals original loose mineral powder foundation (matte formula).  I also like BarePro powder foundation.

Re: Powder Foundation question

I definitely think if you have very dry  and/or lined skin you will have more issues with a powder foundation.  But a good moisturizer and even a primer first will help a lot.  I also agree with other posters who have said --- use a light hand.  I notice that some days when I get a little heavy with Balance & Brighten, it ends up not looking so good.  But when I go lightly, even lighter than I think I want, it turns out looking so much better.

I have also gotten to the point where I don't seem to like messing with liquid foundation. I love the ease and feeling of a powder foundation.  But I don't want to look dry either.

Balance & Brighten is a very good product but I don't use it every day and I am still always looking for something I might like better.

So, in essence, I think anyone of any age can wear powder foundation but you just have to properly prepare the skin first and then trial and error on which one is right for you.

Can a woman past 60 use a powder foundation?  Quite a few women on this board love Laura Geller's Balance & Brighten which is a powder foundation.  I am wondering if a powder foundation looks cakey on elderly women (me)?  Just curious.

@Katcat1 It isn’t a matter of age as much as it’s a matter of the condition of one’s skin.  Dry skin doesn’t look good with powder. I’m 61 and do not care for LG B&B.  IMO, it can look muddy.  However, I am a big fan of LG Baked Elements.  I can use it alone or as a setting powder dusted over a moist type of foundation.  Also consider the primer you are using.  Some will work better than others.  I’m using one by The Ordinary that I like quite a bit and it’s very inexpensive.

@suzyQ3

What do you use to apply the Balance & Brighten? Do you get a matte finish? Does it accentuate lines?

I too am looking for a quick and easy option for those days when I just want to get out the door without a lot of fuss but since I turned 60, I've been avoiding powder foundations like the plague!

Re: Powder Foundation question

I’m 56 and I know powder foundations don’t look good on my skin. But, in summer I love them!  Now I’m using the IT new powder foundation that is spf 50 .  I think it’s good coverage, not aging, and doesn’t melt right off in summer. I recommend IT!
