Re: Powder Foundation question

I am a huge fan of Mally's cream to powder foundation.  Also, her primer is the best I've used.

Re: Powder Foundation question

The best powder foundation I've ever found (and use everyday) is from everydayminerals.com. Love their site and lots of free samples to find the perfect colors for you. I use to use Bare Minerals but when they changed their formula it gave me a bad rash.

Re: Powder Foundation question

At 70 (very shortly) w/ combo to dry skin, I occasionally use powder foundation. Yes, “older” women can wear it, but it depends on which one and the application.

After moisturizing and spf, I wait at least 10 minutes for all of that to set/dry down before powder foundation. I do not use it under my eyes as concealer or get too close to crow’s feet area. I do use NARS concealer (in a tube w/ doe foot). Blend it well before foundation.

Tested several powder foundations on clients & myself: Bare Minerals is the only one that did cake, dry or settle into lines. After 15 minutes of application, it had blended in w/ moisturizer (even though set) to look like a creamy matte finish. I don’t use their brushes. They’re too stiff and rough on my face. I use the IT brush w/ larger end for foundation and smaller end for around nose, etc.

I begin w/ the swirl & tap method and small end of brush w/ very little product. I conceal around nose, darker spots, etc. first. Then move on with a light amount and swirling motion to the remainder of face beginning at center of face and blending out. Go over concealed areas, but stay clear of undereye area...that’s where it will cake and show wrinkles the most. I’ll stress it takes a tiny amount of product. You don’t want it to look like a mask or so perfectly covered that it resembles a mannequin’s face. Everyone has a spot or darker area...I leave a few not concealed for a more natural look.

If using powder foundation, I always use a cream blush to give some area of the face a less matte look. I also use a setting spray to make it all look more moist. You can make one yourself w/ rose water & bottled water in spray bottle, it’s better than purchased ones w/ additives.

@VenturaHighway  I will take a look at Iredale but not now, I purchased Avon to see if I like this kind of foundation.  I currently use Laura Mercier's oil free tinted moisturizer which is lovely.  But I would like to have a really easy back up (swipe and run) lol.  Thanks.

Hi @Katcat1. I’m now LM as well, but my swipe & run is and always has been Bare Minerals powder foundation.

Re: Powder Foundation question

kat---I am 64 and was wearing the powder foundations for years, very successfully,  and now have come to realize that they don't give me the coverage I want.I found the coverage was spotty even tho my routine to prime for foundation has not changed.  And I just bought LG super size bal-n-brighten!!!  I like the bb/cc liquid foundations and LOVE Smashbox water bb and even Maybellines Fit brand. I do brush on a setting powder afterwards but think LGs B-n-B is too heavy!!

Re: Powder Foundation question

Absolutely, moisturize skin first, use spf etc wait till it dries and then powder. Laura Geller Balance and Brighten is great. Don’t use too much.

@IMW  Definitely the key to success w/ any powder foundation is less is more. Don’t try for full coverage. Use it to conceal areas first & then you can less.

Re: Primer underneath powder foundations. The more layers of products between skin and the foundation is what leads to the cakey look. The foundation is meant to blend in w/ the skin. It can’t do this if it has to get through serum, moisturizer, spf and primer.

Re: Powder Foundation question

I use LG Balance & Brighton and like it very much. I'm in your same age range. B&B is cream base first then baked to the powder cake. Powder doesn't work for me but this method does very nicely.

IMO - when women complain about their foundation caking in wrinkles - be it powder , liquid or cream - they are using way way too much. I have some wrinkles , after all I'm 69, and I use L'Oreal true match powder foundation every time I leave the house.  It has never caked in my wrinkles. There is no benefit to piling on tons of makeup. Either it works for you or it doesn't but piling more on does not make it work better, and IMO - too much MU is not a good look for anyone. Remember the nice vendor who originally presented  Bare Minerals, I believe her name was Leslie. She always emphasised to use a very small amount for the best look.

@151949  You’re so right. Also a really good moisturizer...one correct for your skin and enough of it, should be plumping some of those wrinkles. Sometimes I use 2 applications of moisturizer massaging it in, not just letting it lie on the surface of the skin.
