Can a woman past 60 use a powder foundation? Quite a few women on this board love Laura Geller's Balance & Brighten which is a powder foundation. I am wondering if a powder foundation looks cakey on elderly women (me)? Just curious.

I use an Avon Cream-to-Powder foundation .... no caking. Looks very natural - matte finish.

Funny you should post this. I normally use a stick foundation but wanted something easier for summer.
I used to use both LG's Balance & Brighten and her Bronze & Brighten. Since I needed a bronzer and use to like hers, I bought the set of both (full-size) for I think it was $33 at Dermstore. Great deal.
I am liking both again.

Hey ~I still use Laura Geller at 62. I just use plenty of moisturizer first, let it dry down, and use a light hand with the B&B. I also use her Blush. I don't use Laura's brushes to apply. I use the biggest IT brush, and don't do tons of swirling like Laura does on TV. HTH

@Katcat1 I'm in your shoes and usually powder foundations are a nightmare for me. I have normal skin with some dry spots. I have tried many and the only one that has worked for me is the Smashbox Halo. I also use the It Cosmetics Vitality Glow Anti Aging Matte Bronzer. It's not a foundation but it warms up my face (I'm on the light to med side) and I aIso use a touch of an Illuminator on cheekbones or I mix a liquid Illuminator with my moisturizer. I like to look somewhat natural and not cakey. I can't stand looking cakey. This is what works for me. Sometimes, I wear my liquid foundation but the last 6-9 months, I've been using just the powder. My husband likes the powder better also.

@Katcat1I love and have used for years "Jane Iredale's" powder foundation. It is perfect for this old skin![]()

I'm 64 and still use Bare Minerals original formula with no problems. I found less is best. A regular size container lasts me for about a year. For my skin tone, they have a perfect match.

@Katcat1 I tried Balance & Brighten several years ago. LOVED the look, but I was allergic to it. If I wasn't (and most people have no problems with it), I'd probably still be using it. I've used It Celebration Foundation for a few years, and don't have a problem with it being a powder. That said, I live in a very humid climate. I'll be moving to a drier climate soon, and anticipate that I might need to switch to a liquid.
Best advice... give it a try!
ETA ... .64 and NOT elderly! LOL

I am 62 and when I use a powder foundation, it is the Tarte Amazonian clay loose powder foundation, the original one. Every time I wear this, I get compliments on my skin. It is a natural finish and doesn't look cakey, even if you build to full coverage. I have four foundations in my rotation and use them depending on my skin that day and also the temperature and humidity. The Tarte powder holds up well, especially if I use a primer.

@ALRATIBA Thanks for the suggested. Before I go spending $$ of money, I purchased the Avon to try out and see how much I like it. The shade I wanted was out at Avon so I purchased on EBay. Thanks again.
