NEW GLASSES FRAMES

I really dread having to choose new frames, but have had my black frames since my hair was dark. Now with silver hair and fair skin, the frames were the first thing you spotted.

It’s not that I’m particular. I’m so difficult to fit...small face, almost no bridge and high cheekbones. Frames need to fit my nose without sliding down, rectangular shape (but not so narrow that they can’t accommodate my progressive lenses). The stems also have to be flexible to slide under my hearing aid wires behind my ears. I usually have 2 choices and not fond of either. A real PIA.

After being disappointed at 3 places, I went to Warby Parker...had heard about them, but 1/2 hour away. Guess what? Huge choice of frames! They fit me in a child’s frame (no snickering) in a newer style some places are carrying called an “Asian fit”. I chose a clear lucite frame...a new, cool look! My dark eyebrows sit above, as they should. I’ve started wearing slightly brighter blush and lips, so they did not wash me out. The best part? The frames will match anything...no color!!! They should be ready this weekend. Yes, opened 7 days a week.

Warby Parker donates a pair of glasses to needy children for every pair purchased. What a wonderful policy!!!

That's wonderful! Glasses are really like another piece of jewelry and it's so important to get just the right pair. And when you do --- you feel and look great! The frames you chose sound so nice. And I like that this company does a good deed as well!

@Shanus I purchased a pair of Warby Parker glasses a few year ago....one of the fun things that you can do on their website it to upload a photo of yourself and "try on" glasses with the photo. It's not perfect but can give you an idea of how a certain style could look on you.

You can also borrow up to 6 pairs of frames sent to your home to try on in person and they pay for shipping both ways.

I like the sound of your new lucite glasses...I will have to go check them out they sound like something that I would like...enjoy your new glasses!

Thanks @haddon9 . I did check that option out online, but being so difficult to fit, it was easier to go to the store in person. I also like that I have 30 days to return them if for any reason I don’t like them and lenses guaranteed for one year against scratches, etc. I do get non-glare coating that I had always paid at least $100 extra. This store does not have an extra charge.

I think they make their own frames and lenses so can offer such great deals. My glasses usually cost about $550 (new frames, lenses, non glare coating). My new glasses were $295!!! I may get a second pair...have always wanted red frames, but not practical if they’re your only pair.

@Shanus I like the idea of Warby Parker, but I was not thrilled with the glasses I bought from them in 2015. I got my prescription through my health plan at work, but the glasses they offer sucked,so a coworker suggested Warby Parker. Told me they were very reasonbly priced, and I saw they were an Oprah favorite (didn't know if that was good or bad). Anyway, I went there and got a pair of eyeglasses & sunglasses for under $700 total. Was thrilled.

But the glasses never seemed that great to me (sunglasses were fine). Something was just off. A year later I went to see my eye doctor (regular check up) and he didn't like the prescription. This wasn't Warby Parker's fault, but he wasn't thrilled with them either (didn't try to disuade me from going back there, but he just wasn't enthusiastic). He insisted I get new glasses and the new prescription was a lot better. I just changed from it two weeks ago. Got both the 2016 set and the new set from another vendor that I've used most of the time since the 1980s. I really wanted Warby Parker to work for me, but I don't see myself trying them agian. Don't know now for sure. Anyway, I'm glad they worked for you.

@Maloyo Sorry you had this experience. Was the prescription not made the same as written by your doctor? I’ve had lenses where the progressive portions were not placed correctly and they were re-made. I hope mine do come out right. I guess that’s what I liked about the 30 day guarantee.

Shanus - glad to hear that you are pleased with your new glasses.

For years I would get my glasses from my Eye Doctor. But it seemed like the selection was the same year after year. So I made the mistake of going to Vision Works.

What a mistake. I went in on a rainy Tuesday afternoon. Was I wrong. I waited over 2 hours for someone to wait on me. There weren't many people in the store and they kept saying they would be right with me. There were 3 employees but only one that would order the glasses. Not sure what the other 2 employees jobs were (talk to each other?).

The glasses I ended up getting were huge. The arms of the glasses on the sunglasses wrap completely around my ears. I have taken the glasses in over 5 times because they were digging into my head. And because the glasses completely wrap around my ear, no glasses case would fit. They had just handed me standard cases. I went back and they spent 15+ minutes trying to find a case, I ended up getting a Catherine Deneuve case. And the glasses still are a tight squeeze into the case.

I have no idea how he "fitted me" for the glasses. I went to a Vision Works that was relatively new. I thought that often they send in a first rate team of employees to open the new store to get word of mouth favorable opinion about the store.

Haven't tried to get new glasses since. Glad to hear about Warby Parker.

@drizzellla I wish you had tried to return them. I had a similar incident at a different store. I took them back within a week with a week because they were tight on my ears and they were not able to adjust them.

I nicely gave them the choice to refund my money or I’d deny the charge on my card. Unfortunately, they stood fast. The credit card company denied the charge, they lost out and also lost a customer.

You got a great deal price-wise. My lenses alone were $500.
