Re: How to do with sensitivity from retin a and niacinamide?

When I used retinol, I washed my face with Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser and still do.

It’s tretinoin 0.05% with niacinamide 4% combined in one lotion.

Stop using it and let your skin recover.  Start over by using it only once or twice weekly to start. Every couple of weeks increase by a day.  Keep doing that until you're able to tolerate nightly use.

I have to disagree with stopping it. It's better to just use it less often rather than go back to the beginning. Sensitivity should reside when you use it less often. Tretinoin dosing is cumulative so whatever you apply today will continue to affect your skin in the days and weeks ahead. Stop and you go back to the beginning and have to put up with all of what comes with starting over again with tret.

@SilleeMee   (@magpie4) You know I'd agree about stopping the retinol/retin A, etc. There's a good reason docs let you know there may be irritation, sensitivity or changes in your skin's reaction to other products. It's also imperative to use at least an SPF 40 every day since the skin is more sun sensitive.

Stopping the Retin A, no matter the strength, will be going back to day one. When you begin a routine with Retin A/retinols, it's a positive commitment. To see any benefit in the months ahead, there are the "negatives", too. I also agree to use less often...every other night...until your skin adjusts. It doesn't happen overnight, but neither does the positive results.

@Allthingsgirly67   You may want to try pure tret w/o the niacinamide. Sometimes the combinations in one product can interact with your skin.
