How to do with sensitivity from retin a and niacinamide?

For the last three weeks I’ve been using dermatica retinol and niacinamide and I noticed that my skin seems sensitive to products I put on it. Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

@Allthingsgirly67

What other products are you applying and how often?

Your title of the thread says "retin a" but you say you're using retinol? Which one is it? Those are not the same thing.

@Allthingsgirly67 Stop using them. Give your skin a rest from the two products. If you are still having sensitivity, stop all products. You may need a dermatologist if after stopping everything you are still having sensitivity. I have had to have cortisone to recover from my skin's reaction to some products.

If the concentration of Niacinamide is too high, find a lower one.

Gradually increase how often you use it to see how your skin tolerates it. First two weeks use once a week, then increase to twice a week for a couple of weeks, etc

It’s tretinoin 0.05% with niacinamide 4% combined in one lotion.

Stop using it and let your skin recover.  Start over by using it only once or twice weekly to start. Every couple of weeks increase by a day.  Keep doing that until you're able to tolerate nightly use.

I have to disagree with stopping it. It's better to just use it less often rather than go back to the beginning. Sensitivity should reside when you use it less often. Tretinoin dosing is cumulative so whatever you apply today will continue to affect your skin in the days and weeks ahead. Stop and you go back to the beginning and have to put up with all of what comes with starting over again with tret.

Use some hydrating and moisturizing buffers. Hydration and moisturization are not the same. I love niacinamide! I didn't have any sensitivity or redness issues using it but I wasn't using it with tretinoin. I think it was 10%.
