I made a post last August concerning a nail polish color.  Everytime I go to this forum, that post is the second one shown at the top of all of the other posts on beauty banter.  There have been no comments on that post since August of 2015.

Why does that post stay in that particular location and how do I remove it?

Thank you!

It sounds like you Floated the post to the top of the topic list. That means you will see it at the top of the list when you are logged in, but other people do not see it at the top.

To undo the Float, open the post in question. Next to the red Reply button on the top left of the post, you will see Topic Options and a triangle. Click the triangle to open the pulldown menu. You will either see Float this Topic to the Top or Un-Float this Topic. (I'm guessing you will see Un-Float.) Click Un-Float this Topic if that is listed and it should drop off the front page and go to its age-appropriate location.

@Quinny  With few exceptions, once a person makes a comment on a discussion forum, there's no going back.  As far as I can tell, if the OP has a change of heart about a thread he/she started, they can delete their OP as long as there haven't been any responses.  If a person comments on a particular thread, they have a short period of time in which to delete said comment, if they've had a change of heart about posting it.  I'm not sure how long that is, but not long.  If there is something your comment that you regret, perhaps an unkind word or accidentally giving personal info that could jeopardize your security, you could flag the post for the webbie to delete if that self-delete period has expired.

As for the location of that thread on your index, if someone makes a comment it will bump up again.  Since you said there hasn't been any activity since August, I'm wondering if you may have inadvertently bookmarked somehow and that keeps it "pinned" high on your index.  That's just a guess though.

While on some forums you do have a limited amount of time to delete or edit, I've not found that to be the case here. The post that's linked in my signature is from June of 2015 and I edit it every few months to add links to new tips. I just deleted a comment I made on a post in October of 2015 to further test this out and it deleted it without issue.

Hmm, that's weird.   I just found an old post of mine, to check for and test a delete option, and it wasn't possible.

Was it an original post or a comment? I think that if you start a thread, you lose the chance to delete once anyone replies, but I could be wrong about that.

Hi Jude, I delete posts all the time - either I've changed my mind on it or I got no responses and just delete it.  I've never had trouble deleting a post unless it's one I started.  Yesterday I asked a Mod to delete a post I started because the thread was going bad and he kindly did, so maybe flag your own post like I did and ask a Mod to delete it?  Hope you get it worked out!
