Hi Shanus,

I agree with you totally! i used to go to Nordstrom's and have the makeup artist suggest the nicest quality foundations and makeup. It always looked much more smooth and polished. It was well worth the money. Eyeshadows have to be a good quality. I've had too many issues with drugstore or Avon eyeshadows not performing well.

@Shanus   I'm sure that you are correct, especially given your profession and experience.  I'm the wrong person to ask because I don't consider cost.  My priority is cruelty free and I'm always seeking the balance of efficacy/product performance and cruelty free products.  So I'm an odd duck (in probably lots of ways).  But I always appreciate and learn from your shares.

I also have a mix of both high end and drugstore.  I learn about the higher quality drug store products by watching the beauty you-tubers.

Re: HIGH END OR DRUGSTORE?

[ Edited ]

I do both...for example, my cleanser is Cetaphil but my moisturizer is Clinique. The only "skincare" I use is a moisturizer, so I don't mind paying more for that one item.

Makeup is mostly Laura Geller, but I did recently buy a Dior eyshadow palette that is amazing! I agree that higher-priced eyeshadows are generally a better buy--the color payoff and application ease makes them more worth the price. On the other hand, my all-time favorite mascara is CoverGirl LashBlast in the orange tube--and I've tried several higher end brands there. The CoverGirl gives me exactly the volume I want, and it stays put!

Hair products are all Tresemme--except for Tweak'd mist. So a mix there, too!

Definetely high end for me. Drug store products have negative effects on my skin. High end is more expensive, but for me it's worth it. I get the results I'm looking for with no irritation or bad results.

@scatcat   I can also purchase cosmetics and skincare at Nordstrom free ship and free returns (used or not) and no questions asked.

Drugstore: No.7 face moisturizer, Dr. Thayer toner, Neutrogena sun screen for face, Ulta brow gel

Mid Price: Mary Kay cleanser, Mary Kay eye gel for undereye, color cosmetics by IT, Laura Geller, Bare Minerals

High End: mascara and lipstick by LancĂ´me

I have my products pared down to only the brands that I like and that work best for me. Don't want to change a thing.

I use both drugstore and high end and find they each perform well according to my needs.

If you purchase from QVC or Sephora you won't get ripped off. You can return items that don't work for you. Of course, this is within the return policy time frame. If you use drugstore brands you cannot return open or used cosmetics and skincare. For this reason, I don't feel you will get ripped off. I realize some items need more than the 30 day return policy. The end of the year, October and November, are good times to try a pricier item if you so wish. Since QVC has the extended return policy during that time you could try something for 3 months if needed. Just a suggestion.

I worked at Ulta - they take back used products within 60 days.
