Re: Friend who works at ULTA told me Mally Cosmetics.......

I overheard an Ulta salesperson tell a customer basically the same thing regarding Mally product! It must not be an isolated location but company wide.

That's too bad that the Mally makeup isn't as good as before. I don't think she had much of a say when her company was sold since it was in bankruptcy proceedings beforehand.

@jlkz do you use a mascara primer before applying mascara?

I have found that the primer does prevent flaking for me. I found that even with primer the CK mascara by Calvin Klein that I had gotten as a freebie from a Ulta from a year or two ago flaked.

Bankruptcy? How could that be? What state was that in? That's too bad, she had some innovative products that other companies would follow. I love her face/lip defender.  I  really like her copper penny eye pencil too, it is just beautiful on me. I  cant say that about other brands, she  also  has one of the best shades of blush for me  and I appreciated  the convenience of being able to buy Mally @ ULTA.

This 2015 article from the Baltimore Sun has a good explanation of Mally's cosmetic company's financial problems:

I think if you search the QVC boards you'll also be able to pull up discussions of why Mally was not on QVC for a while due to her company being in bankruptcy.

Loved her Mascara before she sold the company.  It went on smoothly without clumps.

Now it is very liquidy, filled with clumps and FLAKES.

Tried Lancôme: Defincils as well as their newer formulations Hypnose, met .  Flake City !!!

Ulta rep raved about " Better Than Sex  " mascara brand: same issue.

At any price, is there a mascara that goes on think, smooth and doesn't flake ???

I strongly disliked Mally's mascara before the sale so I've not tried it since.  I also found the packaging to be super cheap.  I had 2 tubes of that mascara from kits I bought and the lid on both tubes cracked very quickly and the mascara got dried out.

I have tried Definicils and Hypnose. Hypnose was just okay to me but not worth the price.  Funny thing about Definicils, I love that in the small GWP size tubes but I hate the full size tubes. They are never the same to me.  Doesn't make sense I know.

I love Better Than Sex mascara.  I have no problem with it flaking nor did I have a flaking problem with the 2 Lancome Mascaras or Mally's.

A lot of people swear by L'Oreal Voluminous.  Have you tried that?

Re: Friend who works at ULTA told me Mally Cosmetics.......

@SahmIam  I used to use Mally's mascara (original one in white tube). In fact when she did a special of 5 tubes to a box, I'd purchase that. Loved it. Then it changed. Received several orders w/ mascara dried out, returned & replacements the same. Newer mascaras not that great either. It seems every time a company is purchased by another, shortcuts are taken and the product is never the same.

@Lipstickdiva  After my MALLY disaster & not liking many dept. store mascaras, I went back to my L'Oréal Voluminous mascara..blackest black...not the waterproof (too difficult to remove & takes lashes w/ it). It curls, lengthens and volumizes...all at a drugstore price.

Re: Friend who works at ULTA told me Mally Cosmetics.......

I swear it took me thirty years to find Mally mascara and it worked. Now, I'm back on a quest for a good mascara that stays where you put it and is good for your lashes. I have two that work for me: Bobbi Brown and YBF. I prefer the volume look I get with Bobbi Brown but prefer the brush on YBF

It is so frustrating that the first thing these mega corporations do with these buy outs is to cheapen the formulas. I think they are re-couping their sale cost in the first year before they start to lose the customer base. Disappointing....

Glad you commented on this because I thought that I was the only one. In general, I love GWP sizes over the full size. I have used a GWP mascara, bought the full size  (Bobbi Brown, Estee Lauder, Lancome, to name a few) after loving it so much, only to be disappointed with the full size. I also hate, hate, hate, mascaras with bloated tubes (like most of Covergirl mascara packaging). I find them very hard to wield. Maybe I am so old that the fat tubes just don't work because I am so accumstomed the thinner tubes I have used for eons. :-)

Voluminous is a hot mess on me. I look like a raccon by the mid-morning. And the clumps! Oy. I have never understood the raves this one gets.

CUrrently, I am OBSESSED with Touch In Sol mascara from Sephora. It has a cult following but is getting harder to find. The store doesn't carry the full size anymore and it's always sold out online. I use the one in the black/yellow tube: never a clump, curls, glossy and stays put. The prefect mascara for me.
