After many years of having manicures (only once a month when I went in for color) in spite of having peeling nails and using  all kinds of nail treatments to try and change the splitting/peeling, I stopped using the treatments (no more manicures due to Covid) and lo and behold the nails stopped peeling! I used a cuticle oil and hand lotion constantly...

But that was it....

My manicurist, now out of business because of Covid, was very surprised when I told her..

My nails are growing and look really nice..

I want to use a clear polish  to give some shine to the nails, but am hesitent to use anything that might cause my nails to peel again..

Any suggestions?

Bring a natural shine to your nails using a nail buffer.

It won't be as shiny as clear polish, but it does give a nice natural shine to nails without the harsh chemicals in nail polish.

During the shutdown I picked up Beekman's Cuticle Cream. This stuff is awesome! I use it faithfully every night even though I am now back to getting manicures. I use regular polish and bring my own stuff to the salon. The Beekam boys did a great presentation of this and I was not disappointed. Plus it's all good ingredients.

I've never had a professional manicure and have long strong nails - so no idea about products used.  Suggestion:  Try a clear polish on one or two nails and see how it goes.  If peeling acts up again - stop and buff like suggestion.

It sounds like your nails have been dehydrated from chemicals.

I use a single coat of NailTek.  I do my nails about every 10 days or so, since I usually have to trim them a bit.

I recommend Sally Hansen 7 in 1 nail treatment, 2 coats of this does it all!! The treatment goes on clear, the bottle is pink.

I'll toss in another 👍👍 for the Beekman cuticle cream. It whipped my problem child cuticles into shape in no time. It's a fantastic product. When I don't have time to do a full cuticle treatment, I will run a quick swipe of the Beekman Stick of Butter over my cuticles. The stick of butter is my favorite Beekman product to date. It's an amazing multi tasker! Works on cuticles, lips, elbows, I will even run a light swipe over my facial lines if I'm looking dry and dehydrated.

Funny...mine are the same way....was getting gel manicures and also Dip, and after covid hit stopped getting nails done, they looked horrible for a good month then started to heal and look pretty good; got tired of the plain look so I went out and bought essie gel, which is just color and top coat...well, now my nails look awful again and are peeling...so, no more gel for me, just going back to regular nail polish...I am using Sally Hansen nail oil until they heal again.

Someone here mentioned Nailtiques Plus formula for nails that really needed help.  The peeling and splitting on 3 of my nails stopped and the others looked even better.  The product leaves a great shine on the nails.

As progress is made, you can step down to regular Nailtiques formula.
