I prefer the dog. Smiley Happy

Thanks Feline Fine for the website recommendation. If I were young I would go back to college and get my degree as an animal rights legal advocate. Some people feel so entitled with their label that we are human beings and therefore superior to all other species however intelligent or compassionate the other species may be. In many ways I feel that some people bring down an establishment and society in general with that kind of superiority attitude. Wouldn't it be wonderful if everyone would just tolerate what is not their cup of tea and not be so quick to make some law to protect their sensibilities.

I think you very much miss the point. At least, my point, for sure.

Your implication that that the two species are somehow equal is just wrong. And that fact in no way demeans a species. Each has its own attributes. Dogs can be wonderful, loving companions to human beings. But they cannot perform on the higher level that we can.

If you think that they can, then I'm just baffled by that.

I've never seen one in a salon, but maybe it's illegal in my state.

Not only do I think this is not a healthy environment for a dog, but many people are allergic to pet dander...and that's just the tip of the iceberg as to why I think it's wrong, but many others have echoed my thoughts on the subject so I won't list them all.

It is very inconsiderate and selfish of pet owners to insist they take their dogs everywhere, IMO. Don't get me wrong--I am an animal lover and spoil my little poodle like none other, but I don't expect everyone else on the planet to share my feelings about my dog. There's a place for everything, and pets in a salon is not one of them.

I'm pretty much done with this thread because I doubt I would teach anything nor am I learning anything but I do have two things to say: if you value humans more because you think our brains have higher capacity, would you value a genius over a lesser intellectually capable human? And regarding the immoral statement, spare me. Check out the way animals who become food supply live thanks to our disgusting and never ending need for fatty meat in this country. That is immoral and turning a blind eye to the suffering of animals is something I hope we all have to answer for someday. So don't you dare preach morality to me. God will have that judgement about me as an individual...I won't sweat someone's opinion on a shopping channel forum.

Dogs are great, but I don't want to see them in my hair salon unless they're service dogs.

Qvclina you are so correct that we don't know all the hidden attributes of our furry companions………. dogs can sense cancer starting in their companions and it has been shown to save their life by early detection and that is just the tip of the iceberg. I just think we need to be tolerant and realize that we need to get over our sense of entitlement and that the world belongs to everyone not just us. We shouldn't be restricting these basic rights. It is not a matter of demeaning our particular species, we do that well enough on our own.

First, I was of course speaking of our species (we are a species) as a whole. If you don't understand the reasons that we are a "higher" species, then there's nothing more to be said on that point. It has zero to do with valuing more intelligent people than lesser intelligent people.

Second, your bringing up less than humane treatment of animals, whether it's in the production of food or in any other way, is a pure straw man argument. No one here has even remotely advocated cruelty to animals.

But some here have voiced their opinion that they value (as in "I would choose") the life of their dog over the life of a human being. That's not a straw man; that's what some have clearly and unapologetically said here.

I take this literally to mean that a loved one of mine -- a child, perhaps -- would be less important in terms of his or her life than this person's dog. I surely hope that you or anyone else who feels this way would be just fine if you or your loved one was the recipient of such a decision.

It's a situation that I use to demonstrate a mindset that you are entitled to and to which I can express my dismay, to put it very, very mildly.

Straw man argument or not, my moral choices are being judged. That's pretty insulting. Would you not respond? But if you strictly want to stay wwith the lifesaving scenario...why go there? Again, who can say? What if it were my child and your elderly mother and you had to decide? Or a serial killer, rapist.. or my dog? You could fill a book with all the possible scenarios of who deserves to live more versus an emotional choice. Obviously some people here would always choose the animal and some never would. Shake your head all day long. You can't know why some people hold a different position than you do because they have had different experiences than yours and perhaps mine and it would be a fresh breath of air if people would allow for that. We don't have to follow the humans matter more supposition just because you don't understand or agree.

Something awful and horrific must have happened to anyone who would choose an animal's life over another human being. The human race must have badly failed someone to even think such a thing. Pity is all I can feel for these poor souls.

And that's my opinion and you don't have to agree with it.{#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}
