In keeping with the subject of the last couple of posts, Cinnamon looks like a real "Cutie"!😄  I'll bet she's sweet, too!😉  Happy to hear she's accepting less food (I wish I could get into that habit!).  I think sometimes it's easier to acclimate a rescue animal to a different routine than one you've  had for years.  She doesn't yet know what's supposed to be "normal" for her new life.  In some ways a clean slate.

Good luck with your new stockpiling attitude.  I think we all have a problem with that at least to some degree.  Which is funny, if you think about it.  Nowadays, with everything so plentiful and literally at our fingertips, why is it that we feel we have to hoard products like a squirrel gathering nuts for a harsh winter? 🧐🐿

(Okay, I realize that is really a chipmunk, but it's as close as I can get!🤣)

@geezerette Thank you. Yes, Cinnamon is a very sweet "Cutie". I tell her every day how pretty she is.

My stockpiling tendencies started many years ago. It's a long story, but at one time I was staying with friends, going through a home foreclosure and a divorce. Years later, back on my feet, I was able to purchase things that I wanted.

Well, that was comforting, so why not buy more? At on point, I was waiting for the UPS truck to deliver 9 packages in one day. I'm not that bad now, but I still fight the need to stockpile (I hate to use the word "hoard" because it reminds me of all the trash on the Hoarders show.)

One mantra that always plays in my head is: "It's better to have and not need, than need and not have". I just take it to the extreme. Smiley Happy I'm a work in progress.

@Eager2Learn

I can understand that thinking.  I had much the same.  Coming from a youth of having to watch pennies, then getting into a situation where our finances increased rapidly over a few years.  At first it was hard to spend.  Then it got easier.  Then it got too easy.  And moving to an isolated farm with limited access to goods and services, stocking up became a way of life.

Now I tend to stock up because I'm afraid my favorites are going to be discontinued.  I can't seem to get it into my head that if that happens, eventually I'm going to have to find a replacement anyway!  Duh! ☺️

Free My Mind in February is my mantra for the month.

I'm feeling overloaded with bad news and need to stop filling my head with junk that I can't control. Why spend time reading and watching nonstop bad news? There are a couple news topics that just annoy me, I'm putting on blinders to ignore it. I need to stop the negative self-talk = why did i buy all of this stuff? why did I allow myself to get so out of shape? why am I still at a job that I dislike? I need to really just press pause and clear out the mental clutter.

Free myself from the urge to buy things I don't need. I've cut back on my time watching mindless QVC or HSN shows and will continue to cut out more this month. I used to think that was a happy place to just forget about real life but it's really just temptation to buy stuff. The time spent watching that will be better used by picking up a good book. In recent months, I've really renewed my love of reading again :) I find that I'm enjoying reading much more than wasting time online or watching tv.

Freeing myself from physical clutter will be good for my mental wellness too. I'm breaking up my clutter into projects - smaller projects so I can complete a project, feel good about the progress, then move on to another project. I know it's too hard looking at the full big issue. It's like losing weight. I'm breaking it into 5 pound segments instead of looking at the bigger number I need to lose.

@FindingMyJoy , Yes, yes, and yes. I took my cue from you for the month and we are pretty much aligned.

Most of what you posted above applies to me as well (but for the fact that I'm retired). One would think that since I am retired, my home would be spotless and uncluttered. But it hasn't worked out that way.

And yes, I used to love to read. My mother used to call me a "bookworm". I need to get back to that and forego mindlessly watching stupid soap operas on tv.

I always wondered that - once I don't have to work fulltime, would I use more time to keep a cleaner home? I figured there would be other stuff to do versus cleaning...stuff that would be more entertaining LOL.

Definitely give reading another try! Check out your local library, pick up a new book from an author you used to enjoy or find a new author to try. I really like the website goodreads.com. It's full of great book recommendations.

Re: ComPact 2020 – Fill in the _____ February

I had ordered some face cream for my mom from HSN. It arrived last night and I opened the box to make sure everything arrived safely. There was a sample packet of the new Korres pomegranite scent for their olive oil line. It was a promotion for an upcoming special. I've always liked other lines that had this scent so I did rip the packet open to try it. I'm glad I got a free sample so I won't have temptation to buy when it's released. I have yet to find a scent in their olive oil body cream line that I like? I do enjoy the texture of this line but enjoy the scents more in their regular body butter line. I'm sure Korres will have a great kit at a good price most likely with free shipping. This combo of a sale usually makes me order 1 if not more of their sets. I don't need any more Korres body creams! Posting this now so I hold myself accountable when this sale does launch later in Feb.

I have been making good progress using up some of my smaller sample size body creams that are 1-2 ounce sizes. Several of these were Perlier or Korres kits that had several different scents to try. Taking a little break from larger tubes/jars to make a good size dent in the smaller size collection. All of these smaller sizes are variety of scents. Its interesting to see how few are scents I really like now? My sense of smell is really changing. I know a few of you all have mentioned going unscented. I haven't moved that far over yet...but anything is possible.

Re: ComPact 2020 – Fill in the _____ February

[ Edited ]

I tossed a few little things yesterday and decided I needed to declutter some of the dog's stuff too.  I've always kept a bed for her beside my own bed, but as she's gotten bigger so has her bed.  I'm getting tired of tripping over it every time I want to get out of my bed or make up the sheets.

So, I moved her bed to the end of mine.  Still in the same room, still close by, just in a slightly different place.  And while I was doing that, I tossed out the blankie I keep on top in winter too.  She had ripped off every piece of the binding tape around the edges and there were a couple of holes in it too.

The result?  Neither of us slept a wink last night.  She kept me awake with all her tossing and turning, banging my bed, and out and out whining.  By this morning I had admitted defeat.  I moved her bed back into its old position and dragged her old blankie out of the trash.  (Thank goodness I had missed the trash pickup yesterday!)  She immediately jumped on top, arranged the blankie to her satisfaction, and stayed there all morning giving me the most pitiful and accusatory look I've ever seen.

Guess I'll just keep tripping over it all...😣

Some things are sacred and not meant to be "decluttered". 😉

@geezerette I would have done the same thing. As a matter of fact, I have a folded blanket (covered by a towel) beside my bed that's in the way. But Cinnamon still lays there on occasion. (It's all about the dog, she's the Queen of this castle.) Smiley Happy

Re: ComPact 2020 – Fill in the _____ February

Alright, HEP - I have been doing so much better.  I am not dieting but I am eating much less junk than before.  I am a snacker and still indulge but I dont indulge all day long.  It is amazing how much I was eating. It is still hard at times but it will be for a while.  I am exercising as well and have every day.  Just mild cardio and some strength training.  I have dusted off my pilates machine and will start using it.  I have a couple of times but want to get consistent.  I even bought the pull up bars. Not sure how much I like them but will do them. Maybe I just have to get use to them.  As I pull up, the seat kept getting caught and it was the end of one of the cords so I taped them up. I procrastinated for a while and then this morning I went and fixed the problem.  I cant let procrastination get in the way of my exercising.

So far 11 days in and I lost 5 lbs. However, I do take this with a grain of salt for now. It just seems to bounce around. I am sure my body will stabilize at some point.  But right now, I will take any reduction I see. I am feeling so much better already.  And altho I want to see a lot of progress in the weight department, right now I am working on just getting healthier.  I need to stay away from the scale. It can be such a demotivator.

Here's to a healthier 2020.  It has been a long time coming.

Re: ComPact 2020 – Fill in the _____ February

My decluttering has been slow but I did clean out my medicine cabinet.  I really cant wait to get through a lot of things. It just keeps reminding me of the money I have wasted on things I never took. oh well.  Now I have to figure out where to take my meds and vitamins to dispose.

It feels like I declutter and declutter and still see clutter. oy

@geezerette, I think it was you that said that basically what you have is what you use. Is that right?  How does that feel?
