Hi, guys, I am on my second week of having the flu. I just can't get over it I feel terrible. The doctor gave me Tamiflu, which I finished today, but I still feel cold and hot flashes (fever is gone now) and have a lot of pressure in my face from the phlegm and stuff. I can't believe how weak I feel. I need to clean my kitchen floor, but I just can't get down on my hands and knees and do it. uggg.

I had all of this in Dec, Sinus, bronchial and the flu. It took me a month to recover. Rest is the best thing ever, it will allow your immune system to heal. Who cares about the floors, you are the most important right now.

Just Bee, Im sorry that you have any stress in your life. But you know what? Your mantra of what will be, will be, will go a long way in your recovery. Worry gets us nowhere, we know this now. Strengthening your resolve will allow good things to come to you. Remember I was drowning in a warehouse full of products until I started Compacting. Now look at me, Im saving money, using my stash, not buying unnecessary items and clearing clutter from my home. You and the ladies on this thread helped me to stop worrying and to move forward. Plus, you have so many friends here, all well wishers, who has your back and willing to help talk you through this.

My office is looking good. Isnt it funny when you clear clutter, the room feels cooler. Im only about 3/4 done, if I don't get it all done, that's OK. I will just continue into March, but I will finish. See no worries.

Though this week out was not good for my wallet or 'no buy'. No strength to clean the house because I spent my energy shopping on line. Ouch! Gotta get back on track.

Today is a new day; practice makes perfect....or almost perfect since we are human.

I agree, it's a work in progress. Don't be too hard on yourself and enjoy your purchases. I find I am strong at times and other times not so strong. Lately, I haven't been too strong either but at least it is somewhat controlled, but I feel myself slipping so I have to take a minute and revisit the reason I am doing this. I can definitely see where the blahs feed in to my urge to shop.

I feel paralyzed by stress.

Too much negativity out of my control things going on in my life. I need to get a ton of work done on my room today but I just feel glued to my seat. It feels like I am tied to the railroad tracks just waiting for a train to come down the tracks...

I wish I could twirl a wand and poof the stressors right out of your life. Try to find something that relaxes you.

Stress attacks my body. I ache terribly when I am stressed. One thing that helps me a lot is to stretch. My first stretch is always to stand with my feet slightly apart and touch the floor. It feels so good to stretch. I find it very relaxing. Then, I move on and stretch as many muscles as I can.

I hope this helps and things calm down soon. The more each of us posts, the more I realize that we all have so much in common. Always remember that you can come here for a pick-me-up! Smile

I still find new things pretty and sparkly but I don't feel like I HAVE TO have it all now. Even handbags and shoes, which was also an area that I justified as needing "variety" so that I wouldn't need to buy lots of clothes, is not so appealing now. My DH is truly amazed at the change, LOL. Have you ladies heard of Jenna Marbles on YouTube? She has a funny rant about things she doesn't understand about girls, which includes her own behavior. Warning, there is swearing but the core message is so true. I do ridiculous things like "goo hoarding" and having multiple bags that serve the same purpose. Why do we do that? How long have I been stocking my handbag to be prepared for anything and never used any of it? My DH never feels the need to stuff his pockets full of emergency gear, LOL. Probably because he knows that I'm already lugging it around. I think Just Bee doesn't even carry a bag. That sounds so freeing! I think I will make that my March challenge. Downsize the handbag. I don't think I can go entirely handbag-free but I think I can reduce the amount I carry around. I at the same time I should be able to reduce my stash of bags. We have a plan!

I am completely over the handbag thing. I used to buy handbags like a crazy person. Then, I decided to break that bad habit and went on a one year no buy for handbags. My no buy lasted for 15 months. Now, I am not nearly as smitten as I was with handbags. Yesterday, I was going through my closet and found my most recent handbag purchase. It is a fun bag. Not practical and doesn't go with a lot of things in my closet. Why did I buy it? I have finally realized that I am a basic handbag girl. Simple, clean lines, little hardware, neutral colors. I agree that some of us need a handbag wardrobe, but mine does not need to be huge. A basic bag for fall/winter and spring/summer. An amusement park crossbody bag (which I already have) - not too big, zips closed, water repellant. A travel crossbody bag for slighter nicer destinations. That's about it. I vow not to buy another fun bag for the remainder of the year. At the end of the year, I suspect I will continue my no buy.

Hey everyone. I'm home with the flu, feeling pretty wiped out.

My purchasing has been practically nil, except I did order and have already received the Carolyn Pollack cuff. It will be my one splurge for the month.

This is clearly the nicest thread on the boards.

Hope you are better!

Did you get the TSV cuff? It's beautiful!

Agreed. This is the nicest thread.

Aaagh. Yes. I got it and then ordered one in blue and a few rings to match! I was so sick yesterday I was actually worried about myself. I went from one couch to the other, drinking water and tea the whole time. By early evening it was unbearable. So I went and got some different cold medicine from my parents' (Corricidin liquid night time HBP) and it actually worked. I got some sleep.

Today I am up and around, doing laundry, etc. I am still congested and have two earaches, but at least I'm not writhing and flopping around on the couch like a crazy person. I am keeping myself quarantined until at least noon tomorrow. My dad is having radiation therapy right now, and the last thing he needs is to be exposed to this bug.

I might start onto decluttering one more room today, as penance for my recent jewelry purchases.

So happy you are feeling better. If those earaches do not go away, see your doctor. Several years ago, my DS had a cold. It moved to his ear. Then, it moved to his lung, and he developed pneumonia. We caught it very early, so antibiotics and rest took care of it.

Now, enjoy your new jewelry. So pretty!!

If the pressure in your face doesn't start to lessen, please see your doctor. You might have a sinus infection. And do not touch the kitchen floor. That's an order! {#emotions_dlg.laugh}

Feel better soon!

Re: ComPact 2014 – February

Did you hear a scream at about 12:40 p.m. EST? That was me. DH told me that he ordered another remote from Amazon. Moving on .......

I worked in my closet to make room for the Skinnytees that I bought. Guess what? I pulled out 16 things to donate and 2 things that I tossed. There are a few things that remain in limbo, but they are fall things. I'll look at them one more time this August.

Well, I mentioned that I have never seen Def Leppard in concert. So sad. But wasn't I thrilled to find that their Viva Hysteria Vegas concert was on AXStv this evening!!! I enjoyed it but found it to be too edited. Many of their best songs were not included. Fortunately, the concert was clean. I was able to watch it on our large TV with DD in the room. She was not impressed. DD said that she doesn't care for boy bands. Def Leppard? Boy band? I don't think so.

Re: ComPact 2014 – February

Thanks for your encouraging words & support everyone! I cried a little, prayed a little, and gave it all to God. That helped a lot.

Kcc, I like both of those songs! They do help. They make me want to hunt for more similar songs, too.

I had a long day but wasn't home most of the day. I'm still going to do my best to get my ORC done by the end of the month. We'll see.

Don't give up, Just Bee!! You may even find that one of those areas of nursing that have high burnout rates is just the one for you. (Even if it isn't, there are so many areas of nursing you can move on to each time you feel restless and "done." Transitioning may or may not require extra schooling, but extra schooling is better than staying stuck at a job you hate for a prolonged period of time, right?)

My best friend (in her 50s) was a hospice nurse for 30 years. I'm not sure how many people do that sort of nursing long-term, but she was just cut out for it, I guess. The only reason she isn't working now is that she's been on disability since she suffered AML and had a bone-marrow transplant. If she is ever able to go back to work, I suspect she will be happy to go back to hospice nursing. Her positive outlook regarding all that she has been through would be an asset wherever she [potentially] works in the future.

I think you're right about not being labeled a "job-hopper" though. Nurses can easily become psychologically exhausted. I believe it's because most nurses care enough to be bothered by some of the horrible things they see. Empathy is both their strength and their weakness. It makes perfect sense to me that many people in nursing choose to change course every 3-5 years.

I feel that my friend survived as long as she did in hospice because she has certain religious beliefs that give her hope regarding death, and what comes after death. I also think that some career paths are chosen by certain people because they know they have an ability to overlook things (unpleasant aspects) of a job that other people are tormented by.

When you hear others speak about what they "can't stand," and you don't understand why...you may have found a lead on what it is that you can contribute that others cannot.

I often hear people at my work talk about things they hate about the job...and my list of things I hate is often different than theirs. We all vary...which is great, because everyone is cut out for something different.

I hope you find something that is the right fit for you!!!

It surprises me that I am privy to some revolting details about my patients and I don't run out of the building. Oddly, they are the things I cannot tolerate: Animal, child, and elder abuse.

Is it a form of compartmentalizing?

Yes, I'm sure it is. And, of course, when they are in the hospital with you, they are not out in the world hurting others. I don't know whether or not you feel you are helping those people to better handle their issues, but if you're feeling like what you're doing isn't making any difference, it is indeed time to look for something else.
