Hello All: I hope everyone is starting to feel better-- physically & in every way. Now I admit this is late to ask, but what the heck? What does ORC stand for? Is it one room challenge?

You got it! ![]()
Some of the ladies decided to devote one month to one room in the house. My project's on hold until I figure out what I'm doing about work. If I resign, I'll have time to focus on a room while I'm job-hunting. But now that spring has sprung in Albuquerque, I'd really rather get out of the house and work in the yard.

We're almost to the end of yet another month. How is everyone doing? ORC, buying, etc.
Just Bee, glad your name is easy to remember. I'm so tired tonight I couldn't find the thread and ended up searching your name. It worked.

Thank you. I'm in. For me-- it feels like the only way I might succeed. I have tried & it's a kind of adult onset ADD. Can't focus & go from one room to another...frustration that there's too much 'stuff'. Not a bad problem to have-- I can donate what I don't need/use. Just Bee: still hoping you will figure it out. We're all rooting for you!

Bee--I know you will make the best decision for you. Changing jobs can be challenging especially if one is not lined up before quitting.
kcc--I know the frustration of too much stuff. I have a timeshare on Waikiki. It isn't extravagant as it is one bedroom with living room, kitchen, bath and lanai. The interesting thing is that when I go there, I have just the right number of items to work with and the right number of clothes. There is no clutter. I'm trying to keep that image in my mind as I go through this house. I've found that I do better focusing upon perhaps two rooms and doing a little in both. I see progress in more areas.
I haven't bought anything that is not food, meds, gasoline, cat food or household needs since January 1. It gets easier as time passes and not buying can be as addicting as buying. It also helps that I know I have some expensive projects in the future. Speaking of projects, my heat went out this morning with 5 degree temps in the forecast for tonight. I have a tower space heater I got from Amazon last Fall as a just in case item and that thing is really working well as I'm comfy in the room. That is a cost effective item.

KonaKat: Hope your heat comes back on-- soon but glad you have the tower heater. Good planning ahead :-)

Have you tried an epilator? I have tried so many hair removal products & my epilator is doing the best job of anything & it is so much less expensive.
I slowed down on my ORC yesterday but I did get a little done. Was gone much of the day.
Does anyone know how often Coldwater Creek as their 50% off of everything in the store sales? I'd like to take advantage of those sales when using my Groupon deals. I was thinking, if they have them once a month, I could use one deal in March & one in April. I have two deals with $50 each & have to use the full amount of the deal at one time.
They haven't had one lately, so I feel like one is right around the corner. I am on the lookout. The next time I am at the mall, I'll ask one of the employees if they know when there will be a 50% off sale.
Thanks! I think I will start keeping track of when they have the 50% off sale in my notes to see if there is any regularity to it.

Wow! Last day of the month!
I won't be done with my ORC but I am OK with that. I am going to get it done ASAP and then move on to another room - the kitchen - for March. I am going to do my best to learn from what happened with my February ORC & not put off working on things. The month goes fast!
I did good on not buying beauty or clothes in February. No unnecessary purchases even in other categories. I'm avoiding makeup/skincare temptation most of the time. I have not watched many presentations & just stop watching when I start to want to order something.
I did pick up some Monistat (use it for my makeup primer) because I am almost out of it. I also bought a set of 3 medium size hair claws. I use them to put my hair up at home & my last one broke.
I ordered a pair of shoes a few days ago - the recent HSN Easy Spirit TS. My Sporto athleisure mules fell apart a while back and I very much need to replace them. I looked all over town but did not find anything much at all & the few I did find were not in my size. I hope these fit. No other clothiing purchases since December!
I used up a few products this month but not a lot. I really do not have many things close to empty anymore. I could have done better at using my body butters, especially the small purse sizes. I know I could have used up one or two of them if I had really worked at it. I've been doing really well at using a nice hand cream in a jar. It was a gift & I put it on the edge of my bathroom sink to remind myself to use it. That has worked great. I'll probably get to the bottom of the jar in March or soon after.

Well, today successfully completed will make two months in which I have not bought anything other than necessities such as food for myself and the cat, meds, gasoline, etc.
I made it through the night without heat and slept well. It was 7 degrees outside when I got up. I turned off the space heater when I went to bed and turned it back on when I got up. We are having another weather event with a severe warning attached to it to arrive on Sunday. The word is that this might be a severe ice storm. Ten years ago we had a severe ice storm statewide that took out the electricity. As a result, it took forever for the crews to get the power restored. I went a week without electricity in freezing temperatures.
If I can endure that, I can endure restricting my purchasing. It can get addictive. Right now, I will have a huge cost for an HVAC replacement.
Since this is a beauty forum in which we discuss the different cosmetics, effectiveness, etc., I thought I would post this link of a letter from a father to his daughter written while in a beauty aisle. In it he talks about true beauty using the words often used in cosmetic hypes:
