It's not just an oil that hydrates your skin. In fact, oil does not hydrate. Water does. Oil acts as a barrier to keep the hydration in.

When I use certain oils, particularly argan, my skin gets unusually drier. At first I thought I wasn't exfoliating enough but this wasn't the case. I asked my derm about it and she said sometimes oils will cause the oil glands in our skin to shut down as a response to having the excess oil applied there. It's a natural reflex of the skin to do this in some people like me and eventually leads to dry skin.
