Re: “2024”, Everyone, Please Join Us!

It will be rainy and foggy until the temps tumble around New Years. We partied at DH's sister's house on Christmas; twenty-one of us. Today I've been reading about low carb/low sugar diets. It's all very confusing to me because I've never been a reader of food labels.

@AuntG , one thing to know when you read labels is to avoid buying things that contain high fructose corn syrup or has it listed as corn syrup. Anything that ends with the letters 'ose' is a sugar or something that ends in the letters 'dextrin' is a sugar. The more processed something is, the more you should avoid it. Many salad dressing contain sugar & salt. Your best bet is using oil & vinegar on a salad. Choose olive oils over other oils.

Take to drinking flavored water like LeCroix or Bubbly instead of colas. Sparkling Ice is nice but it contains 'sucralOSE', an artificial sugar.

Also remember anything that says 'sodium' is salt. You should pay attention to what the 1st 4 ingredients are on a label. Ingredients are listed by the most quantity first.

These days you have to have a degree in Chemistry to understand some labels.  And try to shop the outer areas of the supermarket -- produce, dairy & meats.

@AuntG, if you've never been a label reader you will probably be really surprised at how much added sugar is in almost all processed foods. all fruits and most vegetables contain natural sugar. but, there is a lot of information available about carb counting and restricting sugar. the more you read, the more sense it will make. also, it's been my experience that when I restrict my sugar and carb intake, the less I crave them.

good luck Smiley Happy

Re: “2024”, Everyone, Please Join Us!

Good Morning!

Im thinking of starting to put Christmas away. We usually wait until after New Year's Day, but I may just start and do a little each day. Our Christmas was nice. We celebrated at our son's house with our DIL's family too. We played games and ate too much..a really fun time.
The weather here has been cool and wintry feeling. I love it!

@AuntG , first, let me say, I think it's great you aren't on any medications, so far. You seem very active too. I like the Mediterranean diet. Easy to follow, just limit processed foods, red meats, any added sugars, eat healthy carbs, fresh vegetables, etc. and you can even have a glass of wine! I have trouble with my glucose numbers too. It's amazing how cutting down on sugars helps. Hard at this time of year for sure. Best of luck to you!

@MariotaMurielle , I ordered the Lessman Night Time. I got to thinking I may have tried it a while back, and it didn't help. I can't remember. I've tried everything. If I did, I'm sure I didn't start with the 3 maximum like you, so that's what I'll try.

Great gift for Ezra! Another fun thing to keep him busy when he's visiting..I'm sure he was thrilled!

Happy Friday and last weekend of the year...looking so forward to 2025.

Good afternoon! Finally got my haircut. It was getting messy. Then I went to the further away market for some items. It was very busy there. Came home & made bacon & eggs for lunch! I sautéed some chopped green peppers & some broccoli before adding the egg. I made the bacon on a parchment lined cookie sheet -- 400° for 5 minutes. You can also put the bacon in as the oven is heating up & once it reaches 400°, look at it & add another minute or take it out. I transfer the bacon to a paper towel lined plate to absorb any excess bacon fat.

@JustJazzmom  - Thats how my DD and her boyfriend made our bacon on Christmas morning and it was wonderful.  I'll never make it on top of the stove again.

Good afternoon! A quiet day here with temps in the low 30's. Have to pick up a few items locally. It's overcast & with some spritzes of rain this morning.

Re: “2024”, Everyone, Please Join Us!

hi all. I was up until after midnight reading and slept extra late this morning.

we're having very strange weather here and are under a tornado watch. it's 71 degrees and 88% humidity. that's never a good sign in December. we're having periods of extreme wind, with hard rain blowing sideways across the yard for 10 or 15 minutes. then it completely stops, and starts again a few minutes later. right now nothing is happening. this is supposed to get worse and last until late tonight.

I made corned beef hash with eggs and toast for supper last night. we haven't had corned beef hash in years and for some reason I really wanted some. I sauteed some diced onions and hash brown potatoes and mixed that in with the corned beef. it was really good. even DH liked it Smiley Happy

@SleeplessinSD, when I started taking the Lessman Nightime capsules I started with 2.  when I began reducing the dose of my prescription med I increased the Nightime caps to 3. so far, that's been the right combination for me. I usually take it about an hour before I go to bed. I've been sleeping very well lately and not feeling drowsy during the day.

undecorating the Christmas tree might begin today....
