We, would get sent home from school, if our skirt was to short. We, would have to kneel in the hallway, after passing, we would go to the bathroom and roll our waistline up, and proceed to class, we were silly. Miss, my sister and miss those treasured times.
@moxie11 It sounds like where I went to high school. I went to a girls only Catholic high school. We wore uniforms and. We also did the kneel down and our skirts had to touch the floor. The principal stood outside her office when we were changing classes and checked our hair to make sure that we were not teasing it. Oh and school dances , our dresses had to have straps that were at least 4" wide. And like you as soon as we were out of her sight things changed!

We walked or rode bikes for miles to look for those empty coke bottles. Never had to worry about a weight problem because we burned it off as fast as it went in.

@wilma I'm so old I remember our phone number started with 2 letters from the alphabet, and we had a party line. I remember one time when my Dad was talking on the phone and the neighbor kid picked up their phone and started playing his drums. Well my Dad was furious and went storming over to the next door neighbors because of course everyone in the neighborhood could hear him playing the drums. All I know is his Dad gave him a spanking because we could sure hear alot of yelling coming from that direction.

I remember when I first started working, the Xerox machines. No document feeder, no collating; you lifted a big rubber lid, placed the document down, closed it, made whatever number copies you needed, then rinse and repeat for however many pages you had.

@moxie11 Rolling up your skirt!
I forgot about that! My Spanish teacher sent me to the principal for a short skirt, and I rolled it down on the way to his office. He sent me home anyway!! Mom wanted to kill me!

@ScarletDove wrote:Remember the oil shortage imposed by OPEC in '73, and to get gas we had to wait in line on certain days depending on our license tag number. It was an odd, even number setup for which day you could get gas. I was the designated person in family to take both cars and wait in line to purchase gas....oh what a joy it was with a 2 & 4 yr old!
@ScarletDove Oh my! That continued into my first year of teaching! Parents came and got our cars and gassed them up, bless them!
Then something happened about 15 years ago, another spotty shortage. Luckily, I had first period planning (driving to the other end of the county). I remember calling the secretary on my cell. I was just about to move up to the pump!

I was told in high school that my granny dress was inappropriate, and yet mini skirts and dresses were acceptable! They couldn't send me home, since I lived 20 miles away and rode the school bus, but was told never to wear a long dress again.

I remember Mimeograph machines in grade school that our teachers used to make paper copies. Loved the smell of the copies as they came off the machine! And how about the typewriters that were used in high school typing classes....or how about the 1st televised presidential debate between JFK and Nixon?!
