I don't know enough about these situations to give you any advice.  All I can say is that it really makes me mad when things are not fair.  Being friends with upper management should not mean automatic promotions and less work.  Kudos to her for complaining.

Your manager has no right to ask you about the case.  Since it is a legal case which you can be called as a witness, it is in your best interest to keep quiet.  Simply say you don't feel comfortable speaking about it.

 

Keep doing your job the best that you can.
