Actually, one of my favorite movies is "Devil's Advocate" with Keanu Reeves and Al Pacino...not scary, but entertaining.

Most of the "scary" movies are just too idiotic for me..I just get bored watching them

@Quse  Oh, yes, I've seen "Devil's Advocate."  Mmm...Keanu Reeves.  heh

I used to feel that way too about bad horror movies, but when I got rid of cable and started using Hulu, I realized that most of the horror movies on there are bad, and I'd better get used to it!!  LoL

That said, I don't get creeped out by movies very often.  One that really creeped me out when I watched it at night was "The Fourth Kind."  Not a ghost movie, it's an alien movie (as you can probably tell by the title).  "Another Kind" was also a good movie, but I wasn't creeped out by it like "The Fourth Kind."

I just read that Rob Lowe and his sons have filmed a reality ghost/myth/urban legend type show.

He takes his young adult sons to locations to search for validation of supernatural phenomena, similar to the old Leonard Nimoy series.

Sounds interesting.

I like to watch Ghost Adventures most, out of all the "ghost hunting" shows. I

like the history that they dig up when they research a location.

@mistriTsquirrel I don't know why, but I can't get into alien stuff even remotely. I have no interest at all, but I'll check out "The Fourth Kind".  Always looking for something to watch...if I can pull myself away from all period pieces involving kings and queens..seems to be my latest vice..lol

I find most horror movies just go off the deep end into stupidity. I was so looking forward to "The Rite" with Anthony Hopkins, as I read the book, written by a Catholic priest who was called to study as an exorcist. I thought the movie would be good, based on the book. It was one of the worst movies I've seen, nothing like the book, and went off the rails into...I don't even know what. Total disappointment.

Another movie I liked, which I thought was interesting, not scary to me, was "The Exorcism of Emily Rose" loosely based on a true story. It got bad reviews, probably because it wasn't overly "hollywooded" up, but I liked it.

@Quse  You know what?  Most of the time I couldn't care less about alien movies either.  Same with vampire movies.  But sometimes movies come along that I actually find interesting and good, and they are alien or vampire movies.  ::shrug::

Exorcism movies are another type of movie I'm not really into, but just like the other types I mentioned, I'm sure there are some out there I would like.  I'll have to check out "The Exorcism of Emily Rose."

I'm with you on the overproduction.  I'd rather watch something with a solid story line than something that has fantastic special effects and/or big name stars, but is lacking when it comes to the story.

@mistriTsquirrel I agree, the movie has to have more of a story line. Aliens, vampires and werewolves just have no intrique for me, but I did like "War of the Worlds" and "Van Helsing" (which had none other than our own Josie Maran in it, as one of Dracula's wives)

One thing that drives me nuts with horror movies are the "cheap shots"...when everything is supposed to be very tense, then someone bangs loudly on window or something and everyone jumps..only to find it's a friend, etc..I guess audiences like that. I find it very annoying and the first sign of bad plot and writing 😀

@Quse  Oh yes, the cheap devices...  Reminds me of people who jump out at you and yell "boo."  They think it's funny, but it's a form of "humor" that requires no intelligence or thought.  I guess those sorts of things have a wider appeal, because nobody in the audience is left saying, "I don't get it."  (Although--to be honest--I'm not sure why the guy who jumps out at you thinks it's funny.)  On the other hand, people who appreciate things that require more thought are left unsatisfied or annoyed.  I guess it depends on what your standards are...and whether or not you paid to see the movie.  LoL

Re: The haunted phone inspired thread about " visitors"

Hi @blankette, I'm glad you decided to run this over here in Among Friends, though I thought you'd have more posters joining in.

Seems 'most everyone has some unexplained oddity in their lives.

I have several. Here's one.

I bought the house in which I grew up from my mom's estate. My parents had bought it in 1941 and raised their family here. I moved back here after my mom died.

A number of times spanning many years, various people entering my house paused about 10 steps in, looked around, and asked if there was anyone else in the house.

They all stated it 'felt' like there was someone else present. That was the best explanation they could give for whatever they were feeling.

Of course, I questioned those who felt this.

No, there wasn't anything malevolent or threatening.

They all said they felt it was 'protective' of me.

Here's another.

Just a couple of days after my last dog died (in my arms), I laid down on the bed on my side.

I promptly felt, as I'd felt it thousands of times before, the sensation of my dog jumping up onto the bed behind me (yes, the bed shook with his weight), circling a few times, and flopping down on the bed in his usual spot, curled against the back of my leg at the crook of my knee.

I didn't turn to look, or reach back. I just knew.
