Re: Someone getting free cable

I would not report it unless it affected my  TV reception. I try to stay out of other people's business unless it is hurting someone.  These days you never know who you are dealing with.....

I don't keep my mouth shut out of fear...... stealing is wrong and I was raised to be honest!  I as well as others have spoken up for years--if I had kept my mouth shut around this neighborhood over the years, many harmful things would have continued....like drug dealing, child endangerment, animal neglect, law breaking and code violations by building contractors, etc, etc.  Have you ever heard about "Neighborhood Watch"  or "see something, say something"; if you don't, it continues.  I have always paid attention in my neighborhood and block for not only my family's safety but my neighbors safety and the health of the neighborhood! I do not report anonymously if contacting police, I give my name and ask "perpetrator" reported not be told my name.

Sorry, no way would I report them. I pay thru the nose every month for their criminal prices, anyone smart enough to get over on them will get an applause from me!

Absolutely report them! Call to report slow service on your own equipment and then let the service guy know what you suspect. He/she will check it out - they do not want anyone getting free service at their neighbors' expense. To sit back and say nothing is condoning what they are doing, and what they are doing is illegal.

Re: Someone getting free cable

Years ago i moved into a condo complex. This was right before flat screens etc. i plugged my tv in and attached a cable coming out of the wall , and what do u know i had basic cable ,,,,i was thinking maybe the previous owner didnt shut it off .  I left it for about a month, my catholic school guilt got the best of me and i called the cable company.  About 6 units were spliced in somehow to one box ,  i think i ruined it for the whole complex when i blew the whistle !!!!

How did you find out.  I know that a few years back when a friend in another city was having financial problems a neighbor allowed her to get cable coverage from him.  It lasted only as long as she could make ends meet which was about 6 months.

Otherwise I do wonder how it is done.  I know why not how.

@FlowerBear   I wouldn't hesitate to report it.  Would you give his name to police if you saw him rob a bank?  Both are theft and should be reported.  There is no difference.  If you remain silent, your're condoning his actions.

@Leiloni -- Part of the reason your cable bill is so high is due to those who steal the service by tapping into someone else's service.  Just the same as how shoplifting in stores raises the prices for everyone else.  Would you applaud a shoplifter?

Re: Someone getting free cable

If you want to report it anonymously, you could send an old fashioned "snail-mail" letter to the cable company.  Or, create a new, junk e-mail address and use it to notify them.
