You can eat 3x/day for under $5???  Not to mention all the HBA products that you can't use SNAP for (TP, toothpaste, deodorant, etc.)

The amount of money allotted for each person daily is a joke. No one is eating lobster and filet mignon as so often claimed. There is a push now to eliminate SNAP for inmates being released from prison. That makes sense to me- make it impossible for a felon to get a job and then take away the assistance they need to eat.

@bathinai don’t know much about this subject but I thought snap was in addition to welfare.

SNAP is welfare. Welfare is not just getting a check (TANF)- welfare is a host of benefits and not everyone receives all those benefits. From the USDA website:

 

two-thirds of SNAP participants were children (44 percent), elderly (11 percent) or disabled nonelderly adults (10 percent). The average monthly benefit received by SNAP households was $254.
