On the ones that don't have "show this thread" there may or may not be any further tweets by the originator of the thread. Likely not enough for Twitter to need that link.

 

The number of responses by other people is shown next to the little message bubble symbol at the left under the tweet. I'm sure you know that already.

 

And you do have to click on the actual tweet to open a page showing the thread and the responses by others. Just covering all the bases, and hope I'm not telling you something you already know.
