I made a quick run to Pet Supplies Plus today and was so bummed out when I got home and reached under the kitchen sink to get the disinfecting wipes to clean off the packaged seed bags. Yea, I still wipe down everything before it comes in the house. I glanced out the kitchen window above the sink and saw a hawk with a bird down. I banged on the kitchen window and when I stepped away the hawk knew I was about to come out the back door. The hawk took the pigeon out of the yard.
All of the wildlife was used to me being in the yard during the summer and came to eat while I was putzing in the yard. I've had the inside back door closed for the past couple of weeks and haven't been out much.
I'm keeping a jacket on the back of the kitchen chair and a knit hat nearby so that starting tomorrow, when I put out everyone's breakfast, I'm gonna putz in the yard (midway) by the walnut tree so the birds can eat on the patio while I'm out there running hawk interference.
@Bird mama I have always been afraid of looking up to the sky and seeing a predator carrying something off, traumatic.
