Cannot tell you the last time I went to any mall.  Years, for sure.

When I moved to this area, there was no stores to speak of.  Then, they built a mall and it seemed a dream come true.  I even liked shopping back then.

Mostly I just don't want to take the time to walk and walk in search of something.  I have the time, but driving 20 minutes to my local mall, parking, walking around takes 1/2 the day, and no guarantee I'll find what I want.

If I drive to Tysons in VA, it pretty much takes all day.  You need to pack a lunch for that trip!

There was a time when I was young, I would have been thrilled to drag around in the stores all day, but no more.

I'm in the DC/MD area and there are countless malls.  Have no idea if they are thriving or not.

@Witchy Woman   Go Tysons & Galleria! My old stomping ground. Both my kids lived in McLean and I went up every 3-4 months to see the grandchildren (well, the kids, too, but they're grown...not changing daily)! Loved Tyson's Mall, but you're right. Three or more floors and hundreds of stores with "wings" of more shops/stores...not to mention movie theatres, restaurants and gigantic food court. It was exhausting...especially for this small town girl.

My local mall is much smaller...don't need a map like Tyson's. I still prefer online shopping.

@Shanus Having been in retail for 10 years after teaching, I can tell you Wednesday evenings have always been dead unless you're dealing with Christmas.  Even Easter shoppers were done by dinner time, lol!!!

Also, coupons rarely change on Wednesdays.Smiley Happy

Well of course, @ECBG . I should have gone right to the source, my expert, to find out why. Now that explains it. Aren't you something else? 😜

@Shanus

Yep, that area growing by leaps and bounds.  Just driving the Beltway to get there is a major undertaking.

I moved to Maryland from a VERY small Midwest town.  It took me a long time to adjust to the highway rodeo...and this was back in the late 70s!  Now, it's total chaos most of the time.

There just isn't anything I want/need all that bad anymore, so going "across the bridge" to VA to shop is a no for me.

We have plenty of shopping in my local area, but even THAT is rarely worth the effort.

Thank goodness for online shopping!

You must be talking about North Park. I saw the article about the lawsuit today.

Middle of the week seems less busy in the afternoons...since I retired I almost never go to a store at night, especially the grocery store...the after-work crowd is big. The “outlet” malls in our outlying areas draw the crowds...bus loads of them from neighboring areas...but the outlets aren’t outlets at all...just low-end versions of upscale stores.

@Witchy Woman   I hated that traffic...sometimes what should only be a 4 1/2 trip from here could take 7 hrs.!!

I have always enjoyed Mall shopping. But I normally go early in the day so crowds aren't a problem. I like to try things on or actually see and feel what I am buying so mall's  work for me! Plus I feel like I get in some extra walking for the day.

Here in AZ my daughter, granddaughter and I went to a mall a few nights ago.  All I kept thinking was these stores are starving.   I went in and out of some of the stores, completely empty except for the person or person's behind the counter.  Some of the stores  actually closed at 7:00 pm.  It is so sad, I remember the days enjoying shopping at the malls, I guess those days are gone forever.

There are complaints that malls are vacant of customers but don't we contribute to that? Sure, I buy things online but only when I can't find it locally. I live rural and I would rather support my local small towns and businesses. I know a lot of the owners and feel proud to help them and their families. Heart
