Re: Looking for Shade at the Back Fence - August 2019

Uh oh, how did I miss a day at the Back Fence Woman Wink   I guess I didn't have anything exciting to talk about.

I did do at least one constructive thing around the house yesterday morning.  I noticed some moss growing on the shingles that are right along the connection of the one story attached garage where it meets the two story house.

I googled around and found that shingle manufacturers recommend a 50/50 bleach water mix to address moss.  I added some dish detergent to help the mixture cling a little and put it in one of those canister type pressure sprayer things.

I didn't have to use too tall of a ladder because the sprayer wand has a stream setting.  I carefully aimed the spray along the affected area and emptied the canister.  There was alot in there, lol.

I let it sit for about 4 hours because it was hot and humid outside and then I took the hose up the ladder with me and rinsed off the roof.

II was suprised at how much moss just rolled off.  I'd say I have maybe one or two shingles that have a little moss under them (they are raised just a bit).  I think another application of the mix before it gets really cold should do the job.

We had a really wet spring so I think that's was spurred the moss growth on the north side.  First time it happened and now I know to watch it each year.

Re: Looking for Shade at the Back Fence - August 2019

Yesterday was my birthday and I spent the day with my sister.  We went out for breakfast and then went to a local mall that I haven't really walked and browsed in well over a decade.  There is some talk that this multiple story mall will be torn down in the future to make way for retail and housing development so I wanted to really go through it one more time, lol.

We had fun.  We did silly things like try out the massage chairs in the mall.  Wow - they beat the hel* out of you so if you are boney, I wouldn't recommend it Woman Very Happy  I was glad I didn't get any bruises.  Aside from shopping and walking around we also stopped in a photo booth and got a strip of 4 color photos of us together.  They gave me 2 strip for $5.

We ended up spending money at JCP (of course).  They had some great sales and with additional discounts and using my rewards certificates, I got a really nice down feather pillow for just under $40.  My sister bought a sheet set and pair of sterling silver hoop earrings.

We ate dinner at the local Olive Garden.

We walked ALOT.  It was a fun day.

Oh no @Epicurean   I'm sorry the IBS is acting up again.  Glad to read that you are able to open the windows to get some fresh air.  It was so chilly last night, I set the furnace to kick on if it went under 75 degrees Woman Very Happy  What can I say?  Me and the birds don't like getting chilled.

Re: Looking for Shade at the Back Fence - August 2019

So sorry I missed your birthday, Bernie.  It sounds like you had a nice day.  I would have loved hearing you and your sis getting your pictures taken.

Merle is still having problems. Headed to gastro wk from Wednesday. So just to make sure we had something else going he cracked a crown which has to be replaced.  That happens tuesday.

Just can't seem to get to bbs.

We have new neighbors next door who have a pit bull that barks constantly. I would too if I was tied under a tree. Especially one who lost several branches recently.  They have anothervdog too who is quite old I believe. It comes out and goes right back in.  They have three children. The little girl shrieks while they all jump on huge tamp.  She has an older sister and brother   My neighbor on the other side of the new one is great on getting owners to quiet their dogs. I'm leaving it up to him.

Epi hope you get some relief.

Freddie you're getting close to end of treatments. Keep the white count up.

Oh boy Betty @yock   It's been years but I remember what it was like to live next door to someone who tied a dog out (with a boat chain - not kidding) and didn't provide much shelter.  The family used to put the food a water just a few inches outside of that dog's reach.  Suffice it to say, the dog and I became friends and one day the family woke up and the dog had been emancipated.  Not that I would know anything about that Woman Wink

Re: Looking for Shade at the Back Fence - August 2019

Oh blanking blank NO - suppose to be 102 today and very humid. I understand this will be ALL week. I just about died yesterday and it was not quite 100. Those days are not good for me as I can do nothing. Open the door to go outside for anything and I gasp before heading down the steps.

Oh my Betty, it is against the law to chain a dog for more than a couple hours out here. Use to be super noisy when people kept the dogs chained all the time. Not everyone did that but a lot did. It is also illegal to leave your pets outside all day on heated days, which we have a lot of,  without water. Few years back we had some super miserable days in August - lost a lot of animals and animal had a lot of sad trips on those days. I had to get a small ladder and spray Princess the abused Pittie next door. I heard her gasping and looked and she was stretched out on their open cement patio and I think about gone. Got her up and moving with a gentle spray and put a bucket of  water over there by using a rope. Her owners literally cursed at me for interfering and told me I had no right to do that. I told them then they should take care of her. About an hour or so later I heard a noise in my carport, there was Princess really upset. I do not recall how she got out of their yard but I called animal control. This was the third time I had called animal control re that poor dog. Chris, the animal control officer said to me, "You did not call us, you do not know anything about this dog if you are asked. Got it? Yep I said." Two interesting things here - the owners of the dog never asked anyone about her and I always felt Chris took that dog home and not to the shelter although they use a no kill shelter. He had gotten to love that dog.

I'm eating my bagel inside this morning - not ready to hit the outside for relaxation. LOL

Have a great day everyone

[ Edited ]

Freddie @Winifred   I'm so sorry that you are having more hot and humid days.  Short of feeding the birds and squirrels and refreshing their water during the day, when it's that hot in Michigan, I stay inside.  I can't enjoy my yard when I can barely breathe with all that humidity.  I bought that doggone convert a bench from QVC in the spring and I am finally having a couple of days that I can sit on it and just look at the backyard.

The laws protecting animals could be improved here in Michigan.  What the law defines as "shelter" here in Michigan is 180 degrees different than what I consider shelter. Woman Sad
