Oh boy Betty @yock   It's been years but I remember what it was like to live next door to someone who tied a dog out (with a boat chain - not kidding) and didn't provide much shelter.  The family used to put the food a water just a few inches outside of that dog's reach.  Suffice it to say, the dog and I became friends and one day the family woke up and the dog had been emancipated.  Not that I would know anything about that Woman Wink

@Bird mama   I could tell you horror stories of dog situations I encountered during my rescue years, I can't bear to think about them, heartwrenching!

Went to my GI doc. Yesterday and he said he thinks I don’t have IBS.

He believes I have whats called overflow diarrhea. Gave me sample meds. Take one a day. Sure hope it helps more than it did this am. I have nine days to try it. Well see🤪

@Epicurean   Did they do any imaging?  Do you have some kind of blockage or were you kind of backed up before it happened?

Birdmama,he can tell from my symptoms that there is no blockage. Had imaging  done before for something else,so that’s not a problem. I have had a problem with backup for a long time. Usually I don’t even “go” for three days or sometimes more. Result from taking these “ meds”,  but can’t function without them.

@Epicurean  Have you tried stool softeners?  I had this issue after a surgery and taking pain meds, and the softeners did the trick.

Re: Looking for Shade at the Back Fence - August 2019

@Epicurean   Just a thought and maybe see what the doctor thinks.

All of my life I digested food like a snake.  You know how a boa constrictor can take days to digest a human?  Woman Very Happy  That's what I mean.  I would eat daily and 'go' a couple of times a week.  It never bothered me however my family fretted about it my whole life.

Something unrelated had me visit a GI specialist for the first time back in 2008.  It was a good thing because I was at the age (almost 45) to start the colonoscopy rigamarole.  My Dad had colon cancer and the GI guy said it was best to start screening me 15 years before the age my Dad got the cancer.  He survived it by the way.

So as we were talking I said, you know I digest food like a snake.  I eat daily and go a couple of times a week and it doesn't bother me but it upsets my Ma and sisters.  Is this normal?

I mentioned that sometimes my lower back hurt and that I thought the hysterectomy that I had 7 months prior would get rid of that.  The GI guy said maybe you need to 'go' more often and he recommended Benefiber.

He said we would have to graze on fiber like goats to get the daily recommended amount of fiber.  I didn't feel like it was a problem however he said give it a shot and I said, well okay.

I've been having a teaspoon of Benefiber in my morning coffee for 11 years now.  It doesn't change the taste of coffee or tea.  You can also sprinkle it on mashed potatoes and even though I never tried it in a cold drink, you can as long as it's not fizzy like soda pop.

I mentioned the tea and mashed potatoes because my Ma started to have problems going.  I said, Ma you wanna try this Benefiber? She would put one teaspoon in her tea or sometimes sprinkle it on spaghetti or her mashed potatoes.

I would never give my Ma something unless I knew it worked.  She was a picky eater however she was so happy when she started to 'go' once a day.

I drink lots of fluid during the day and it's fluids like water, tea, etc that help the benefiber work.

No gas, no upset stomach, no bloating, no pains.  Just a 'regular movement' like clockwork.

thanks mousiegirl but stool softener does not work for me.

Birdmama,he told my hubby to use benifiber but not me. I took the new meds he gave men yesterday and this a m. It works like clockwork in three hours. Hope it continues. I also noticed the cramping is getting less bothersome. I hope it continues. In four days I double up the dosage.

so far so good. Hate having something else to take, but it’s worth it if hit helps.

@hellie jo   I'm glad to read that your daughter's surgeries went well.  Sorry to read that your son in law lost some bone.  I wish they would schedule your son's surgery so that mass could be removed and he could get some relief.  Honestly they tell people to be pro-active and then they drag their feet with the solution.  How is your daughter in law doing.

I keep you, the son, the daughter, the SIL and the DIL in prayer every morning.
