My limit is 1 hour. If a no show and no call, to me the contract has been broken. In this era of communication, there is no excuse for not keeping the customer abreast of a time table. If they do show up, I tell them I have already set up an appointment with another vendor.
Too drastic? Not in my book, as an agreed upon time table was/is part of an oral contract. I have always viewed punctuality as an important issue, be it business or social thing. I have left meeting places more than once when someone does not show up or notify me, my sister has found that out often. Her time is important? So is mine!
I ran my adult hockey league that same way for 52 years. Come late too often and you are a former member. Not many organizations run over 50 years unless they are run well. I was always there on time(early actually) and why shouldn't I expect the same from all players?

@hckynut I totally agree with what you said. I think being on time is important.
The only reason I gave this company a bit of leeway, as a few weeks ago after a windstorm, I had a tree damaged and ready to fall over and hit a fence etc.... and I needed it cut down right away. I called around to several companies and either no one returned my calls, or they would not be able to do the job for a week or more.
But, this company did answer my distress call, and came out within an a few hours and took care of the tree.
He was an hour late this second time.... he did text me after about 45 minutes of waiting that he was on his way. Not great, but, again, I gave him some credit for helping me out a few weeks ago on the spur of the moment.

@queendiva--you are a tough customer, miss queen! Out of the 12 contractors I have been in contact with---1 of them never showed up or called or text and 2 did call on the phone and rearranged a time to come over. Both of them apologized too---I can live with that. 3 actually came to the house and the other few weren't interested in my project -------if they are worth anything, they have more than just your job and prob are crazy busy . but---they should always make sure to touch bases with prospective clients too.

I would have texted back to see his explanation because this guy could have been up in a tree or doing dangerous work that ran overtime. I’d have given him a chance if he had a decent explanation.

Rural and they would not dare do this or it would be all over the neighborhood that He did not show or was overly overly late.

This is typical of tree trimmers in my area. But he should have called. We waited six months after they said "we'll trim your maple trees in a few weeks."
Apparently all that saw dust gets into their brain.
