We just experienced the backlash of two hurricanes.  Sadly, lost some huge Oaks and Hickories.  Tree removal people are very busy, sure you can get someone to come hack them down, but a skilled people, and it IS a skill, are scarcer then hen’s teeth.

Agree it’s rude, but there you have it.

Maybe he went to the wrong house and chppped their trees down. Or he may have been in an accident.

@SeaMaiden  So when he got there did he immediately apologize for being late and give you plausible explanation? That could make the difference to me in whether or not I gave further consideration to giving him the job.

Well, he finally text me that he would be here in 15 minutes.   I never did call him.... So there it is.

@sunshine45     Yes, living here in the PNW tree people are always busy. And I like you try to stay ahead of things  as I have had several trees fall over the years.  Pruning and removing trees that might fall in an ice or wind storm.

So, I will just overlook the lateness and hope I get a good fair price.

UPDATE:

Thanks for everyone's take on this issue.   He came out.... we did the walk around and he quoted me a price.  It is a pretty large job.  Three big trees cut down and pruning on several others.  I feel the price was fair for all the work and haul away of all the wood and debri. I know about what I cost for tree work from previous jobs done, and it is not ever inexpensive.

They do have an excellent rating  from local people  and a good one with the BBB too.  I guess because I am an on time person, I just expect others to be the same way.   Maybe I should lower my standards....

If an appointment time is missed, I don't deal with that person or company again. Period.

Never lower your standards @SeaMaiden...I too am a person that makes every effort to be on time and I expect the same unless there is a valid reason for being late.  I also expect common courtesy and that includes a text or call saying they are going to be late because that is what I would have done.

Re: How long do you wait ?

[ Edited ]

If your time is that valuable, you should have called him to find out when he expected to be there rather than sitting around pis*ed off that he didn’t call you.  He’s in the middle of a job that most likely took him longer than he expected and you’re just sitting around posting on these boards venting. If a half hour goes by and I haven’t heard back, I call them.

Guess some people have never got the time of an appointment wrong before.

I'd wait about an hour and then leave the house and do my daliy routine. If he does call (whichI doubt) just say you don't do business with  people who don't keep  appointments. Look for someone else to do the job.

@SeaMaiden  We had to have a large pine tree cut down, removed and stump ground last year. We bought and planted the tree about 15 years ago.   I was surprised at how expensive it is to have a tree removed. I figured out that it cost us 7 times what we paid for the tree when we planted it.
