I had a similar situation. I pretty much abandoned my Facebook after I friended a bunch of gossipy people early on after I had just joined. If I wanted to communicate with someone, I would private message them. I also wondered if I just went in and unfriended a bunch, would they ever find out.
P.S. @Adamlambert, I love Adam!

I 'unfriended' a bunch of people recently also...mostly High School people who I haven't seen for awhile that wanted to keep in touch. After a month of seeing their posts I know why I DIDN'T keep in touch with them since High School.
Deleted: those that use the F word in most of their posts
those that only post pictures of them binge drinking everywhere
Those that post 10 or more Political things a day
posts of Constant selfies
share spam posts on my timeline
those that have constant drama posts
I have a nice small group of family and firends now that makes for a pleasant Facebook experience...

When I was on Facebook, I inadvertently friended someone from high school... That was my mistake so I unfriended her and she couldn't message me fast enough about it.. I just ignored and went on. I am so glad I don't Facebook anymore!!!!

@majaca wrote:I think my main fear is that (since they are gossipers) they will spread it around my street..."oh, 'SHE' unfriended me..." Or, that somehow my kids would suffer in the 'street' dynamics. Maybe I am worrying too much. But, these are NEIGHBORS, not ppl I'd be real friends with!
KWIM?
One of two things is going on here .... either you care way too much about what other people think, OR you need a whole new set of friends. Maybe both.
Who cares whether or not they "like" you? Do you really live for their approval?
This is not the first time I've heard of this kind of drama and it reminds me of the kindergarden sandbox all over again!

I never post personal stuff, so I don't care how many friends I have. I don't friend people I don't know though. I don't care if they are just casual friends, family or close friends.
I do "unfollow" people that put 100 pics of their dogs on a day or 100 cartoons a day, etc. That gets old.
If you unfollow someone, their stuff isn't on your news feed but you are still friends with them.
If I was the OP, I'd just keep them as friends, but post things for "close friends" only and let them see the generic stuff. No hard feelings. I see she already deleted some friends, but maybe my info. can help with the future.
