yes I forgot the hola hoop, I never could get my hips going in the right direction for more than a few minutes at a time.  Oh that makes me laugh, 😂😂😂😂

I loved being a kid!

@ECBG , is this a picture of you?

@ladycos

No, not me.  I had blonde hair almost to my waist.

Re: Did You Have Fun On These?

I had a pair just like this, but can't say that I used them a lot.  One, I was terrible at it.  Two, like another poster, I had brick sidewalks.  So not very good for skating.  Thanks for the memory @ECBG !

I had a pair of these. Not the easiest or safest way to skate. We had plenty of sidewalks to skate on. I also skated in our basement since it was a concrete floor. Amazingly, I never injured myself skating.

I was thrilled to get my white ankle lace up skate boots as a birthday present one year. My friends & I went skating at the local roller rink every weekend. The first school I taught at had roller skating parties as fund raisers. I was one of the only teachers brave enough to skate with the students. Fun times!

I remember 1 of the kids in the Projects, where I grew up, had a pair. Can't remember him ever letting me try them. This however was the same friend that had ice skates and when I could cash in enough nickle pop bottles, I would go with him to the ice rink, rent skates, and he taught me how to ice skate.

He is now 84 and also still ice skates, but not as regularly as I do. He doesn't remember those things as well as I do, but he did teach me how to ice skate. Went Wednesday afternoon for 2 hours of skating, was hoping to see him, but, he wasn't there.

No...I was a klutzy non-athletic girl and could never get the hang of roller skating.  I remember in junior high, the school had roller skating parties several times a year in the evening and I went once to roller skate and the other times I went to socialize and watch.  The first time,I about broke my wrist and was on the floor of the rink more than I was on my two feet.

I was actually much better at ice skating....although that doesn't make much sense LOL!

@shoptilyadropagain -

Wow, this was so neat to read your post.! I thought the same!

 First, I was thinking too I remember these skates as if it was yesterday. I always had to stop and tighten them and they didn't go far or fast over bumpy gravel. Its just what we all had at the time.The key was the coolest thing to me lol!

Next into teenage years it was the best skateboards ever! Rolling down concrete sidewalks as steep and fast as you could go-no helmets, no knee pads Nothing! The mph were probably as fast as I don't want to know! I'm surprised I'm still alive! I would never let my children or grandchildren repeat what I did!

Then the roller skating rink for birthday parties. I thought this was so difficult. I was used to ice skating by then, which I loved. So pretty and elegant. Roller skating seemed so clumsy. I just never quite got it though I learned to zoom along like everyone else, but always thought ice skating was actually easier.

We were very lucky as our girl scout troop had ice skating and from there I got to take lessons. I think of all the sports I got to do, that was my favorite. If we had been rich, I would have probably continued. But then life would not have worked out with all my beautiful children.

Glad to see you posting since I can't "call you".

Your "nephpup" almost ended up at your house for a few days.  He was "bad pup" yesterday and chewed!

Re: Did You Have Fun On These?

This is what my skates looked like.

I remember keeping them clean with white shoe polish, and the sound that the wheels made, and just flying down the sidewalks, wind in my hair.

Mom insisted that I wear elbow and knew pads, which I did.
