I tried, but I wasn't very good on these. Our sidewalks were made of paved bricks. It was a bumpy ride.

I loved to wear my skate key around my neck on a shoe string...that was a cool thing back then.

Yes I loved them! I can remember when I was in sixth grade and we had moved to NJ our street was on a big hill.

I had gone down the street on a skateboard but my mother saw me and got angry. I wasn't allowed yet she didn't mind if I went down the street in those old fashioned roller skates! LOL!

I can remember the only way to stop was to go into the curb at the cross road. Fortunately there weren't many cars.

@ECBG ~ Sure do! Lots of skinned elbows and knees, but had so much fun! We skated side walks, and our church’s large asphalt parking lot. Mom was a gentle as she could be with tending to the scraped knees and elbows, but that horrible iodine stung so bad. Mercurochrome wasn’t that much better. 🤕

Funny, I thought about this not too long ago.

@ECBG Yes! We had Street King roller skates and ours had an extra red pad that slipped over the strap to prevent blistering and make it comfy.

We wore our skate keys on a string around our necks. I adored roller skating.

OH! That's a memory-mercurochrome and iodine with that glass applicator! One smelled worse!

Later I knew iodine be used with baby oil for tans!

@ECBG I loved to skate with these. I skated every single day. I miss them. They were definitely my favorite toy. When the polyurethane wheels came out I never felt like I was getting the traction I wanted. Thanks so much for this post. I needed a touch of feel good memories tonight.
