@Tinkrbl44 ............I was told at one time, there is some type of computer/machine that constantly runs numbers and when someone uses their CC or debit card and the same numbers coinside its a good card number and they try and use it. And I have also heard that these machines can be bought. Dont know if all of this is true or not but the 3 times my CC was hacked was shortly after I had used it.

I received an alert from my bank card that someone tried to use on the east coast (I live on the west). They were blocked because of a wrong expiration date. The weird thing is that the ONLY place I ever used this card is at the bank. So someone at the bank branch in New York tried to hack me I guess. Now I use cash....no cards. Too many scammers.

I have stated this before, but this thread reminded me of when I had to have my debit card replaced TWICE because it was compromised ... both times shortly after using it at Target ............
When paying at the counter and using a debit card, ALWAYS USE YOUR OTHER HAND TO COVER ENTRY OF YOUR PIN NUMBER.
See those overhead cameras ... the little black balls right over the registers? Any crooked security person can observe entry of your pin number .... and then they have everything they need to access your funds!
Cover the keypads when making a purchase!

Hi! @silkyk
Did you get money at the banks ATM in New York or go inside the bank??
Nope. Never been to NY or even close to it. West is the best. My local branch of thi bank was the only place I EVER used that card (in the bank for id not the machine).

I got an email from Bank Of America late last Fri. night that said that they detected suspicious activity on my debit card & needed to speak with me.
I can't even recall the last time I used my debit card, as I used it at a BofA ATM to get cash to have on hand, but I mostly use a credit card. I didn't want to call the number on the email, in case it was a scam of some sort, so i logged into my online banking to check & sure enough, there was a flagged transaction against my checking account (debit card is tied to it).
I called the cust service number & spoke with a young man who told me the charges were for 61¢ for Amazon Prime in Mexico City (?) He told me that whoever had my debit # probably bought it off of the dark web as part of a large package of numbers that folks sell/buy for nefarious purposes. The small amount of the transaction was a "feeler" they put out to see if it would go through before really getting to work using it.
BofA had put a freeze on the debit card at the 1st sign of the 61¢ & the cust service guy cancelled the card & told me they'd send me a new one with different number & exp date, which I got in the mail today.

We all have to be extra careful right during these holidays.
When DD was in her senior year of high school she had two part-time jobs and got her first bank card. She did some shopping at Target. Apparently someone got her information.
It only takes one kind person. I picked up the phone right before Christmas. The lady asked for DD. I explained I was her mother and asked if I could take a message. She asked me if she had ordered a TV and a computer system, shipped to a location about 2 hours away. I told her I hoped not! She laughed and said she didn't think so, and she would cancel the transaction.
The next morning, Saturday, DD and I went to the bank. They did a trace and determined her card was compromised at Target.
Thank goodness for the first lady who questioned the purchase.
