@Carmie I'm guilty of keeping too much money in my checking account but couldn't someone access a savings account too with debit card information? I hate that we have to worry about things like this.

Your checking and savings have different account numbers.  Your bank would have to issue a separate debit card.

@elated Yes, that's true. I guess I was thinking of accessing funds through the atm (but you would need the actual card for that).

Just be vigilant checking your accounts daily and make sure you have set up notications on your accounts.  Fraud can be frightening.

My lawyer told me to not use a debit card.  It seems so convenient, which it is -- but too dangerous.  Not worth the worry and hassle.

@Sunshine Kate   What does being told this by an attorney have to do with anything?  You could be told this by your doctor, your roofer or the clerk in the grocery store.

Attorneys have no more knowledge about cards than the average person other than what they read.

Here is some info about cards that is helpful and explains what we as consumers are liable for should someone use our cards unlawfully.

All I know is our banks Manager told us we should NOT use our debit cards anywhere, except at our banks own ATM Machine. No worry of theft happening this way. Peace of mind…Priceless!!

YES Attorneys help their clients with Identity Theft. It’s ongoing these days, especially with seniors, who are the main target.

From what @Carmie posted, the two paragraphs below are the reasons why I use my credit card more so than my debit card.

@RescueLover  do you really believe that you are safer using your Debit Card at your Banks ATM machine? No way!! You would be shocked to learn that a lot of thefts are taking placing at your ATM machines.

Re: Debit Card Fraud Attempts

I set up immediate text alerts for any transaction over $15 to come right to me. Sometimes it's the smaller amounts you have to watch out for because people might overlook them or that's a way to "test" the card to see if it's viable to use for larger purchases by these thieves.
