Hopefully you can cash her check tomorrow at her bank. And if it were me, that would be the end of all contact with her...period. I would write off the money she owes for the first shopping trip as a lesson learned. I would not confront her for it nor have anything else to do with her. Let her find someone else to take advantage of. Your churning belly will thank you.
The audacity displayed by this neighbor is off the charts!

@Alsace Gal I don't understand why her Credit Card was not accepted. Was it one that Cosco doesn't accept?
I went to Cosco with a friend and as a gift I paid for her groceries at Cosco using my Chase Debit Card with the Visa logo while she use her Cosco Membership.
I do believe that her Check will be ok.

I haven't read all the responses but I do know that you're not supposed to let anyone outside of your family use your card. The cashier that let your friend use your card did not do her job. I have read that Costco is going to crack down on members that are violating this policy, much like Netflix did on so called shared memberships. Costco makes the bulk of their income from membership fees and that keeps the prices down. You may lose your membership if you continue to share your card. So you have a valid reason not to take your friend along to do her shopping.

I would tell her I no longer have a Costco Card and ignore her calls. That may sound mean but I just can't tolerate people like this.
Don't feel bad these people are surrounding us.
My nephew just won $500 in the Lottery. He shared the good news with us at Thanksgiving. His brother in law approached him as he was leaving and asked if he could give him $250. He just laughed and said ..I bought the ticket so the money is mine not yours. When you buy a ticket and win that money will be yours not mine. This person has a reputation for borrowing and never paying back.
Good Luck ...you are a kind person and should be treated with respect.
His mistake was sharing the news that he had won $500. I hope that he did not give him the $250.00.

I am still surprised about Costco. I thought the policy was very strict. As my Mom would say she had a lot of crust asking to use your card and lying about having one. Really this whole magilla is Costco's fault- I thought it was strictly not allowed to use anothers card.

@Love my grandkids wrote:@elated Um no. The last thing the OP needs is to get involved with that creep in any way financially. Bad idea. She's stated she will cash the check tomorrow.
Just out of curiosity how would that connect her financially? I was thinking she would know immediately if this person had the funds or this was a bluff. She could have done it at the checkout line and the OP wouldn't be using her funds.

I had to stop reading the replies, because we were all telling you the same thing.
I wish you luck.

@Alsace Gal Go into her bank with the check to confirm funds. I would even explain to the clerk if they give you a bad time why you are in person getting your $. If there are no funds, ask if the clerk knows what you should do, come back again, or if they will try to continue to cash the check automatically or will it time out.
No one can take advantage of you unless you allow them. Unfortunately, some people are beyond rude and selfish so please do not allow this women to do this again to you. If she asks, tell her you are too busy, or if you feel empowered, tell you that you will no longer allow her to use your Costco card, or finance her purchases. And, because she'll probably ask, NO, you are NOT going to lend her your card.
She can buy her own Costco card, and take an uber, or make her own purchases online and have them shipped to her.
The nerve of people!!

In one of your post responses, you mentioned that not only does she have a car but that she is also a Uber driver.
Ask her how much a ride to Costco would be. Then multiply it by 4 ( two to go and two to return ) and ADD that to what she owes you.
The fact that she helped you lift things without being asked after your sister passed, does not give her the right to abuse your kindness.
We teach others how to treat us by our behaviors. She needs a refresher course. My words to her: until you reimburse me in cash for the two Costco shopping trips, I am unavailable to provide chauffeur service.
Isn't there curbside pickup service at Costco or even home delivery ? She'll probably need a membership card for this....hers !
( If in the future after reimbursable, I will wait in the car while you handle your Costco errands. )
There is curbside pickup. After tomorrow morning and if the funds are there, I'll cash the check and that will be the end of taking her shopping.
