The saying is actually:
Fool me once, shame on you - Fool me twice, shame on me! ![]()

@Alsace Gal You are being used and your first mistake was taking her to Costco a second time.
She used you for your Costco card. She still hasn't paid you back for #1 and you took her a 2nd time?
You need to tell her FIRMLY (after you cash the check) that she owes you for trip #1.
And don't get s u c k e r e d into this again. You are being a doormat. Grow a spine.
It's pretty common knowledge that NO ONE can shop at Costco without being a member. I've been one for years and I resent people doing this. I pay for my right to shop there and so can they.

So the neighbor has her own transportation plus is an Uber driver. Therefore the only reason she needs the OP is for her membership and money. This makes it even worse.
I would say avoid any further contact with her. Period. (After asking her for the money she owes.)

And it's not cheap to be a member!
I won't be taking her again.

Since my dear sister passed there have been so many that have crawled out from the woodwork that want yo take advantage of me, I no longer answer the phone. Some of them I've known for years.

Unfortunately, Costco's new policy isn't consistent. I just read that they are supposedly cracking down on membership sharing, yet at the same time as a member you are allowed to bring your children and up to two guests with you into the stores.
The catch is still that only the member can pay for the merchandise. So you have to be sure that your guests will be handing over cash at the checkout for whatever they buy or are definitely reliable for reimbursement if you as a member use your own card to pay.

You have every right to be upset but don't be a pushover! There are red flags all over this situaiton.
First, she is dictating the time SHE wants to go with no regard for YOUR availability; she hasn't paid you back from the first shopping trip; and the fact that she didn't respond when you asked if she now had a Cosco card and that she would have to pay for her own purchase are all the ingredients for disaster. If it was more than a few days between Trip #1 and Trip #2, and she made no effort to repay you for Trip #1 yet, I would not have paid for Trip #2. You didn't say if the check was for the total of the two trips or just the second trip. Also, you asked to be reimbursed IN CASH after checkout but she gave you a check instead when she knew she had a week to get cash. Another red flag and what looks to me like a stall tactic!
As for the check she gave you, if possible, I would check to see if there are sufficient funds before trying to cash it. Also, going forward, I would accept only cash from this person regardless of the reason just to be on the safe side. So far, she doesn't seem to be a stellar friend. Good luck with it all.

Yes it's true. The first time I took her, the cashier was upset she wasn't a member and told me the next time I may have my membership taken away.
