I have my first appointment tomorrow that may possibly lead to cataract surgery.  Please let us know how you faired (only if it went well!)  I am nervous too because I have a very strong prescription.

Good luck to you!

Always remember that you are absolutely unique. Just like everyone else. Margaret Mead

had mine done at 68 Medicare picked it up and the Medicare supplement

if you want the fancier surgery to get rid of astigmatism you pay the Dr out of pocket for that and they don't even turn in to Medicare because they know they won't cover it.  they told me 3 money levels

1. Medicare 80%, supplement if you got one the other 20%.

2. Astigmatism correction at same time 1600 in my part of Tx. out of pocket

3. 2400.00 out of pocket for both eyes for something else I didn't catch what it does, but, didn't think I needed to go that fancy. LOL

Husband is tight as a tick, but, he paid for door # 2. LOL   All anything else we had to pay for was the eye drops and the glasses they give you to wear to shield from the Texas sun. I called them my Roy Orbison black glasses, but, those things are great.  That 'kit' was 100.

I had mine done a year ago.  For me, the worst part was when they put the needle in my arm for the twilight sleep.  It's really no big deal.

@SharkE

Why would you pay 2400 out of pocket for something that you do not know what it is?

@I am still oxox

read my post again. I got the 1600 out of pocket choice.

That was the most I figured I could spend. I couldn't understand what 2400 would get me, but, didn't matter because I knew DH wouldn't let me have the BEST procedure lucky to get the 1600 procedure.

I am terrified of needles.  So Dr. was aware of that.  They threw some valium in me as soon as I got to the hospital (like you throw fish to a seal) and it was happy time from then on.

I even heard what they were saying sometimes while they were doing the surgery (Dr. later said you HEARD that?) but I felt nor saw a thing.  It was a breeze.  Even the IV setup.

The nurse in pre op and I were laughing like crazy when she was asking me a million questions like "Have you ever had, , , "  Whatever!  Woman Very Happy  Don't worry!  It will be fine and you will be happy I'll betcha!

My first eye I could hear a little bit, feel nothing.

2nd one all I saw was some psychdelic lights, heard or felt nothing.

woke up , they get you up and get you out.  Like McDonald's burgers.

Medicare aren't the best payers , so, the Dr.'s want to keep the line moving.

LOL

Now I'm starting to get nervous.  I'm having my first cataract fixed tomorrow and the second one in a couple of weeks.  One of my biggest fears in life is losing my sight.  People tell me it's not as bad as they imagined but I'll feel better when it's over.

Do not waste your time worrying about it. I had to have my cataracts removed along with corneal transplants in both eyes. I was so scared to get the corneal surgery that I almost waited too long on the first eye. My surgery took about 20 minutes, I had no pain, and no problems after. Smiley Happy

@CalminHeart, all the best to you, I think its normal to be nervous before any procedure. I know I am.

I took my mom to have both her eyes done last year. She had nothing but good things to say about the whole experience.
