I do the art fair circuit in my area...we sometimes go two hours away from home.....I love those shows and looking at the beautiful things people make.

The completely eliminated the two long-standing juried shows in Albuquerque. I couldn't believe it. Apparently there's a lot of financing required and the money wasn't there. I'd love to attend one in Asheville; I bet it's a good one.

@Kachina624 OH! Honey! These artists are the real deal. They have to go in front of a jury of five peers in their area and can only live in the Southern Highlands. This group was started in the late 1800's by a woman bringing the richness of real crafts out of the deep mountains when manufacturing began to take away their livelihood.
Some of these artists have things in the Smithsonian.
WISH you were closer!![]()
You can get a sampling on the site of The Folk Art Center, Asheville, NC.

@ECBG Our NM Arts & Crafts Fair was similar. It was juried and all participants, about 300, had to reside in the state. We have a lot of artists and fine craftsmen in this state too. Both Santa Fe and Taos are known to be artist's colonies. Many traditional crafts like tin work go back to the Conquistadores. Weaving from native wool also is very big, as well as Indian-influenced silversmithing.

@ECBG Thanks. Will make a note on calendar, but no plans yet that far ahead. I'll make sure to give you notice in plenty of time if I head to Asheville. 😁
