I refuse to have that much angst over a meal. The holidays can be stressful enough for some people. 1 meal out of 21 meals each week. I swear, have grilled cheese sandwiches and ice cream for dessert. It really really doesn't matter in the grand scheme.

Signed, Gidget who, admittedly, is waiting for the holidays to be over.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

What does "NADA" even mean in this context?  Can't the OP contribute something before she goes to work or bring something after work?

We have family members that work on Christmas Eve and still bring  desserts, beverages, side dishes etc.

I guess your Mom has a set menu.

Maybe you can take something store-bought.  The others won't care.  They'll appreciate the thought.

I'm sure your parents don't care if you bring anything or not, but I'd never go empty handed.  It takes no effort to bring a cake or pie purchased in advance.

Think it's going to be stale by the time it's eaten?  Freeze it.  That's what I do and it turns out fine.  I don't want to battle the grocery stores on Christmas eve.

I wasn't sure what "sammies" meant until a poster mentioned sandwiches. I've seen the name but never understood it.  I think NADA means that the OP isn't bringing anything. I don't know the situation well enough to comment further..

I can't imagine parents that age cooking a holiday dinner, too bad everyone can't pitch in and buy premade or go out. I hope everyone else does the clean up at least.  Once I turned 25 I took over the holiday meals.
