Go to YouTube and look up Epley Manuever. It works!

Of course, I agree, should check with doc to be sure it's nothing that requires treatment.

Vertigo signifies that there is something wrong.  It can be caused by myriad things, including medication side effects, inner ear problems, blood pressure (too high or too low), etc.  Please see a doctor ASAP.

I suffer from occasional vertigo.  It is an inner ear problem in my case.. benign and positional.  There is no cure, but all kinds of treatments including the Epley Technique.  Please have her go to a doctor to properly identify exactly what it is.

You should take her to the doctor. (She shouldn't drive herself!) Vertigo can be a side effect of medications or can be a symptom of other things. It can be an inner ear imbalance or something else. My mom can get dizziness and vertigo as a side effect of low sodium, which can be dangerous if not addressed.

I know I get a lot of ear problems this time of year because of the cedar pollen and it can be anything from an earache, a "plugged up" feeling with a temporary hearing loss, or dizziness and vertigo and it usually clears up with some decongestant and/or Mucinex. If it goes on for a few days, it should be checked out to avoid permanent damage or allowing another problem to go undiagnosed.

I got very sick from vertigo and went to the doctor.  He recommended I do the Epley Manuever on YouTube or follow an instruction sheet he gave me to do it.  It sounds like it would be ineffective because you do it lying on the bed and turning your head from side to side as instructed.  IT WORKED!  However, for me, I should have done it in the evening because I was a little dizzy after doing it and had to lay down for some time until my system readjusted.  I understand some chiropractors will lead you through this manuever.  For me, this was a godsend and there were times when I had to repeat this procedure.  I have been fine for the most part the last four or five years.  I get touches of it if I bend over too many times too fast, or lay back too fast.  But at least I am no longer waking up with the room spinning and big bouts of nausea.

Check with your doctor about this procedure.

The worst was an inner ear infection I had a couple of years ago.  I could lay on my back or my left side, but if I laid on my right side or stood up I got violently ill - room spinning, vomiting.  This went on for a couple of days, but the spinning sensation lasted for weeks.  Ended up going to ear, nose and throat doctor - gave me meclizine for dizziness and a medication for nausea.  Had a second bout of it two months later, but it was much milder.  Lots of things can cause it - it's nothing to mess with - get her to a doctor to get it checked out.
