I have been taking some collagen chews for about a year. Not sure if they are really helping my skin or bones... but, read that it can.

I think they cause me to bloat and get gassy.... have any of you taken either the powder or the chews and found that you get gassy and bloated feeling?  I am thinking of stopping them as I do feel a bit better the couple of days of not taking them.

I do not know if the side effects are worth what the collagen MIGHT be helping with.

@SeaMaiden

I take collagen by Amy Meyers MD off and on.

Next time I do, I will notice symptoms.

IBS can plague me and so I bet I will notice if collagen makes it worse.

@LTT1  Just curious why would you take it OFF AND ON?

chewing gum can cause the same type of symptoms for me:  swallowing more air than normal.

I've not had problems with collagen supplements.  But before taking, I checked out possible side effects to watch out for.

GI complaints were very common, including bloating. To possibly avoid this, it recommended to start off with low doses and gradually increase to allow your body to adjust.

Also, it seems that some products may cause GI issues more than others, but I didn't explore different collagen sources.

I take Collagen tablets every day, but they are not chewable or a powder, they're more like the size of a calcium supplement.

I have IBS also, but the tablets of Collagen that I take don't cause me any distress like bloating or gas.

I use Andrew Lessman Marine Collagen Peptides, a scoop in the blender - with a scoop of his vanilla Secure Meal Replacement shake in the evening (for a very low calorie sweet treat, in lieu of gorging on a higher calorie snack) and my skin, nail, hair, and cellulite have all improved. A noticeable improvement.

Collagen is among one of about a dozen supplements I take.

Ive noticed my facial skin is not as loose around the jawline/chin

and it is firmer and smoother....keep in mind these changes occurred over

approximately 6-12 + months.

I also take a Biotin supplement, and have new growth around hairline and my fingernails grow faster.

I became interested in supplements a few years back, when my PC dr. prescribed me  a course of Vit, D and OTC Vit. B-12.

Prior to that, I was not using or even thinking about supplements.

Now I take about a dozen, to include B12, C, D, E, K, Calcium, Magnesium,

Milk Thistle, biotin, collagen , potassium  and *real/pure*  CBD

capsules.

An  undercover investigation in the News. ( a few years ago)

tested Vits/Supplements from GNC, CVS, WALGREES, etc.,

and found out that 80% were not what they claimed on the label.

Some had more/less or a substitute ingredient than stated.

In response, CVS ( I assume the others too) has an independent

3rd party lab. test EVERY BRAND THEY SELL  to make sure they

are what the label states.

So I started doing some research for my family and have personalized

a regimen of vits/supplements for their particular health concerns.

(not as many as I take! But the common C, D , etc.)

I understand that what your body can not use, it will “discard”.

Of course, a dr. must be informed of any/all supplements one takes, in case of interactions.
