@Toppers3  thanks for your informative answer.  I had the feeling it was.

I did hear that if you had herpe's in your life as a youngster it sort of dies out after 50.

I still don't believe nor trust it.  I saw too many young women who were in pain when they had outbreaks.

But that over 50 rule is pretty solid and chances of getting it are slim meaning sexually.

@Sage04  Oh what a sweet post. Loved your statement at the end. Yes, I have been to the doctor and am starting to feel a little better as far as the rash but am having a lot of trouble with back pain and pain into my rib area. Thanks for your kind words.

@webbgarner1  I'm sorry for all the pain you are going through.  Can't your doctor give you a relaxant like a xanax or an ambien, or a painkiller to sleep?

I hope your well soon.

FYI for all of you interested.  I was very ill several years back and on top of everything they added "gabapentin".  It helps and does make you sleep.

It was originally used for epilepsy but now used off script for all sorts of things including, anxiety, depression, pain, and sleep.

The big plus is if you have acid reflux and cannot take iduprofen or advil this will not hurt yout tummy.  IMO tylenol does nothing.

I was prescirbed gabapentin after surgery and I had hallucinations and felt really dizzy.  I saw a lady a black veiled in the room, next a huge black bird by the window.

I later read this is a rare side effect but reading further, gabapentin should be used with caution for elderly.

I had had it years ago too and it did nothing for pain. I know drs love to prescribe it thinkintg it is good for everyone but it really is not. And if on it and wish to get off you need to withdraw slowly. For me I only took it once both times and had to stop.

@on the bay  yes I've heard  some people say that about Gabapentin. I've taken it on and off for Cervical Spine pain. Nerve pain is one of the worse. Took it for shingles last year. My dosage has always been 300mg three times daily. Sometimes I only need one and it helps. I always have it on hand just in case. Don't remember ever taking 3 tablets daily. I know someone who takes 600mg 3 times daily if needed. I could never do that but it works for her.

Only two medications that I've taken that gave me problems and they are Percoset and Vicodan so I stay away from those.

@Sage04  I have it on hand if I need it as well.  For me it's the sciatic nerve pain.

If I'm under real stress I take one an hour before bedtime.  I'm prescirbed 300 mg twice a day but don't use it much.

It's there if I need it, thsat's about all.

@Pink123  I know what you mean. For me, that's the magic pill. It really works for me. Nerve pain does not play. Sometimes all I need is one.

I believe if I was not already taking Gabapentin, shingles pain would have been worse.

@Sage04  Good and thankfully it eased the nerve pain.

I have in case of any nerve problem, be it anxiety or whatever as well.  It just slows the system down.

It's main uses was epilepsy which of course make sense if one know's what epilpsey is and then doctor's slowly discovered what else it can do.  Best.
