I broke my ankle in Oct of 2022--had surgery and recovered/healed well for my ancient 71 years
Can walk just fine, which I do everyday but---the dang thing still aches--not where the hardware is on my ankle bone, but around it, maybe soft tissues, that can wake me up at night. I use Tylenol for pain as well as Aspercream. So went to a new to me, foot doc ---got xrays taken and we talked about all the things that could be done---but he wanted a CT scan to really see what is going on--he talked like it is prob arthritis which I'm sure it is to some extend--but one of the things he suggested was an injection of amniotic fluid. Never heard of that. Have heard of stem cell--prp--but not this kind.Would cost $1000 for it, same as for the prp. So I will schedule the scan and see what there is to see--did a little research and it is very interesting. Has anyone heard or had one of these type of injections?

I will be following this also. Broke my wrist in 2021, had surgery and now it works just fine but I'm almost always aware of some discomfort. I had so many tests that show nothing really wrong. Curious what the amniotic fluid is supposed to do.

I never heard of this procedure. I hope if you decide to go forward with it you are relived of foot pain (it can be terrible since I have experienced gout and I know how painful feet can get). I also hope that insurance covers it.

@Carol Diane --same with me. I went back to the surgeon many times--who took xrays and found nothing weird, but told me he would take out the hardware is I wanted----not sure that would have done the trick, he said. and didn't really want anymore surgery. The anmiotic injection has many more of the healing stuff in it than the prp---you should google it--is very interesting.

@haddon9 --No-- insurance won't cover the actual cost of the fluid. I need to see if all the prep work is covered by insurance first. and the fluid itself will come from donor ---not from me as with the prp--that one requires your own blood for that type of injection

I will look into it. By the way, I had my hardware removed by choice. Didn't seem to help much but in my mind I knew it wasn't to blame anymore. I have been to 4 doctors, including one at HSS which is top of the line. Seems to be nothing worth addressing. I've learned to just live with it. It's more vaguely uncomfortable rather than painful. Maybe if I stopped subconsciously flexing it so often it would be OK. It doesn't bother me at all while sleeping.
