I agree with the other posters....see a GOOD Gastro DR. My dauighter has Crohn's and her original Dr wasn't helping her....she was in and out of Emergency.

She now has a Dr who has helped her so much. Find one that Specializes in Crohns and Colitis. There is a special steriod for those that suffer with this Endocort and it doesn't make you swell up like a balloon.

DH had a colonoscopy in mid-October and was diagnosed with Colitis.  His GI doctor prescribed Lialda (generic Mesalamine) which he will take for four weeks and then call Dr. P. with a progress report on how he responds to the meds.  So far, he's only taken it for less than a week.  We're hoping it works.  DH is also keeping a daily journal re. how he responds to foods.

I agree with others who have recommended you make an appointmennt with a GI specialist asap.

If you haven't been to a GI Doctor, I suggest you do so. I know several that suffer from Colitis, and they live very normal lives. One is a Phlebotomist that drew my blood for years.

She has a Colonoscopy way more often than most(has had way fewer than my 15), and takes a prescription. Not sure which, as it has changed over the years. She has told me about problems now and then, but what she eats, to her seems to be the best to keep it somewhat under control.

My DH was just diagnosed with colitis and prescribed a med called Lialda (generic Mesalamine).  I wonder if your friend takes the same med?  It's too soon to tell if this med will help him.  But we're hoping ...
