What you have may not be colitis, possibly could be irritable bowel or lactose intolerance among other things.  You need to get to a Gastrointerologist ASAP.  There certainly is meds for bowel problems.  I have irritable bowel with diarrhea and lactose intolerance and there are meds to help me.  See a Gastrointerologist soon.

I totally understand.  Have had this for many, many years.   I worry when out with friends that I may have an issue.  I'm okay with family as they know my situation.   I have never had to go to bed because of it.   Some days are better than others though.  There is medication which isn't a cure, but does help.  See a gastroenterologist.

This is good, if you haven't tried it before.  Read the reviews.

Quote - eat the same food two days in a row.    That could be part of your problem.  From experience I've learned what my digestive system doesn't like - but I do.  So if I indulge one day (turkey dressing w/gravy)   I wouldn't touch it again for at least 3 days.  For a raw greens salad - I would eat more soft foods the next day.  Try giving your body a chance to 'take care' of that which it has a problem to process.

I cannot agree any more,go see the BEST

gastro dr you can get to..my poor mother-in-law literally suffered with GI problems for many years, until the week she died (she was 88)  she was a very intelligent woman, but would never see a specialist for her symptoms..she was FINALLY

diagnosed with colitis 4 days before she died, during explorative surgery after she had finally agreed to go to the hospital for severe pain & diarrhea..the surgeon told the family she could have been successfully treated medically years before she died.

If you haven't been to a GI Doctor, I suggest you do so. I know several that suffer from Colitis, and they live very normal lives. One is a Phlebotomist that drew my blood for years.

She has a Colonoscopy way more often than most(has had way fewer than my 15), and takes a prescription. Not sure which, as it has changed over the years. She has told me about problems now and then, but what she eats, to her seems to be the best to keep it somewhat under control.

Because I've been there, done that, will provide a little advice.

Sounds as though you may be self-diagnosing or guessing.  Never a good thing to do.

Please see a Gastroenterologist who MAY order a colonoscopy in order to do a biopsy to determine which type, if any, of colitis you may have: colitis, ulcerative colitis or microscopic colitis.

My gut was insulted by a Chicken Caesar Wrap from a famous chain store that lots of folks on here love, but the one I purchased on just one occasion was either contaminated or the date was mis-marked or the chicken had gone bad, but didn't taste like it.  Anyway, 6 hours later, D arrived and did not go away.  Won't go into those details, but finally ended up getting biopsied and was told I had microscopic colitis caused by that blankety-blank Chicken Caesar Wrap.  Was placed on Prednisone for 2 months (60mg/day), which I really needed, then Sulfasalazine for 13 months.  It was a long haul and it took my gut a substantial amount of tme to heal, but after 2 years, my doc was so pleased for me and I was, too.

I would never have known the cause of the ever-continuing D without doing the clinical investigative work that really needs to happen.  When your gut is ill, so much more of you can be ill at the same time, including your immune system.  This is nothing to take lightly!!!

(On another note, at the time of that first colonoscopy to get that biopsy, they found 3 polyps, all benign.  However, 2 years later at my next colonscopy, they found 4 polyps, all of which were pre-cancerous, so I continue on an every 2 years protocol.  Just had my colonoscopy last week and they found 5 freaking polyps, one of which was 8 mm in diameter - huge!  I'll find out this week about these 5.  Always hoping they won't have to go in and do a resection.  My poor gut has already been insulted by the colitis and 2 bouts of chronic D due to post-op Ancef and Vanco.  Poor large intestines...)
