I find this lazy way of losing weight by taking drugs disgusting. Why are doctors prescribing this? They must be getting a huge kickback by giving their patients more drugs to take. What happened to the days of eating a healthy diet and exercise?? Lazy, lazy, lazy.

When you were 70 pounds overweight would you have appreciated some one asking YOU that and insulting you?🙄

Anybody who has Type 1 diabetes knows a few less injections and it is easy and simple to be thin. The weight just disappears. Whereas some people burn fewer calories and their appetite does them in. These drugs help them to think less about food and their ability to produce satiety is worth taking them. Wegovy is helpful for lessening heart disease and stroke. Proven.

I have been on Monjaro since the beginning of the year for type 2 diabetes.  I have lost about 10 pounds.  I have cut back and don't seem to eating much but the wait is coming off slowly.  My sugar is normal again.  I have to go get my A1C checked in the next few weeks.  I am guessing it will be normal again and I am curious to see if they will take me back off.  I was on Trulicity last year for 6 months and lost some weight and my A1C went to normal so they took me off it. It slowly started going back up even though I was watching what I ate. I am on the second lowest dose and really don't want to go up.  It does make me nauseous the first couple days after the shot but other wise no issues.  I had more stomach issues on Trulicity.

@TurnerGal , I was reading that insurance companies tend to do that, refusing to pay for the drugs once you get numbers or weight down.  Do they do that for cholesterol drugs?  I'm thinking not.

@ID2 Obesity is a metabolic and brain disease. New research shows that food intake is controlled by the brain. The new medications act like the hormones that we have to shut off the "food chatter." I have suffered from obesity for much of my adult life. There is nothing lazy about me, I work hard, have done WW (was successful but gained the weight back when my mother was dying) Exercise and on and on.

My mother used to say "nobody wants to be fat," and I agree with her. I would like to be a size 6, petite but that is not what my genes have given me.

I am insulted by your comments but am trying to look beyond that to your lack of knowledge of the causes of obesity. Many Obese people are not lazy, I have never known anyone who has been happy about his or her obesity.

Obesity is a miserable, lonely disease and heck yes, I am gong to take the medication that helps me, just like I take medications for other things.

Is someone lazy because they take something to relieve stomach cramping, relieving them from having to run to the bathroom all of the time? I think not.

@TurnerGal I doubt that your Mounjaro will be discontinued because your A1C is good. My A1C is down to 5.3 an my insurance still pays for my Mounjaro. I have not been able to find Mounjaro in the last month because of the shortage though.

Totally agree with your post.  They are understanding more and more about obesity and it is not that you are lazy or don't have will power.  It is a disease.  Some people just can't keep a normal weight no matter how how they try.  I can have 1 or two drinks and I don't want or need more, but alcholics that have a disease cannot control it.  Maybe in our life times people will be able to understand that and have more compassion.

I hadn't heard of it but read it has the same exact ingredient and strength as mounjaro (tirzepatide)

Mounjaro, Zepbound: Why two names for the same drug?

zepbound and mounjaro from www.statnews.com
Nov 20, 2023  Zepbound and Mounjaro are the exact same medication, tirzepatide, with the same strength

So the only difference as cited by many news articles and FDA is that they are "branded" for different uses.
Mounjaro for type 2 diabetes and Zepbound for weight loss. So just marketing to a different reason and maybe make it more availlable for those who need to lose a lot of weight without diabetes. Maybe it will be more readily covered by insurance.
I see it as drug companies realizing how much money they can make by marketing the same drug to more people and in a different way and not having to have a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes in order to get it prescribed.
I know some who could not continue Mounjaro (tirzepatide) because the side effects made them too sick while others were fine with it,
and did lose weight.

My understanding is that the manufacturer had to have it tested for obesity to receive FDA approval to market the drug for weighloss.  Mounjaro was approved for treating diabetes.  Without specific FDA approval to treat obesity, doctors could have prescribed it for obesity, but I believe the manufacturer could not have promoted it for weighloss.  Losing weight has many health benefits other than diabetes.  Some have hypertension, difficulty with bones and joints, difficulty getting around and engaging in certain activities that are beneficial to a person's health.

@ID2,

Your post is just what the special tonight on ABC was talking about. The shaming and ignorance of what obesity is and calling people lazy or just exercise and don't eat so much has got to stop. I wish you could have seen this excellent program.

Some who are overweight can exercise and watch calories etc. The doctors explained how not everyone who is overweight has the disease of obesity. And it has many complexities and different for everyone. They explained how some can lose weight and others can't and why.

And yes these drugs change many parts of the body and brain to help with weight loss. But not everyone can keep on them due to side effects.

You are lucky that you never had to experience this. But it is

statements like yours that are very detrimental and do no good to anyone. Your weight and health is nothing to be proud of if you can shame others who have health or weight problems.

It has got to stop.

What kind of person do you want to be? One who is kind and empathetic to others or just always telling others how to do it just like you and they are lazy if they don't.
