There really should be some sort of law, requiring parents to feed their childen three times a day.  Breakfast, send them to scool with a lunch bag if meals aren't available at school, and a hot dinner at home, even if it's an quick and easy TV dinner.  This should be a requirement.  Period.

I am Canadian and we didn't supply meals at school..families were responsible for feeding their children.People found a way to make that happen and sometimes a child didnt have a lunch a teacher would share theirs or there would be fruit to hand out.

p.s.  The more I think about it, if parents receive family assistance such as food stamps, etc., one would think that the parents would use those stamps/whatever to obtain meals for their children.   It really irks me that some (underline 'some') people/parents don't carry through re: the wonderful assistance that our gov. offers to keep many children healthy and safe.  Not all places in the world have those basic food offerings to families in need.   Right or wrong, that's what I'm thinking about right now.  Wishing everyone well, including the children.

I  believe that no matter how little money that you have  you can make a bowl of oatmeal in the morning and a peanut butter sandwich for lunch...sorry but I was brought up very poor and we never starved because my mom cooked. We had oatmeal every morning and I grew up healthy and full.

Meningitis is a respiratory transmitted disease.  Your first line of defense is good handwashing.  If you do touch the children or items they perhaps have sneezed or coughed on, keep your hands away from your face until you can wash your hands.

Stay home if your immune system is compromised in any way.  You do not do anyone any good if you are sick and spread it around.

May you have a healthy year.

Having just had the norovirusl last week may I say stay away!   It was horrible and ran through 4 households at the same time. Yes all family that had been together. It was like a tornado running over everyone leaving us weak and dehydrated. It is very contagious!!

I do volunteer work with children and some adults.  I have my vaccinations for the average and expected illnesses.

However, there is now a meningitis scare and a Norovirus scare.  If you do any volunteer work what precautions do you take?

We are all retireees and many are seniors - not easy to overcome some illnesses.

I am thinking of not returning until there is a handle on things.

What did your doctor say about this?

@Tinkrbl44 Long ago (17 years) my doctor advised me to avoid large crowds and people who may be sick or diseased.  My immune system is not to be compromised as I have fewer lymph nodes due to a double mastectomy.  I still take risks and I have enjoyed my museum work but things are getting too concerning to take chances now.

Well, first and foremost, our health shouldn't be compromised.   There are other ways to help ....  people, animals, wherever you'd like to contribute.   One door closes, another opens.   Your next satisfying adventure may be just around the corner.
