Re: Yeast Infection Probiotic

I used to get terrible yeast infections often. It turnd out that I was diabetic and didn't know it!!!! Was spilling sugar into my urine and the yeast was feeding of it----it was my gynecologist that came up with my diagnosis.

That was in 2002----I am on insulin now---and I do not have nearly as many yeast infections as I used to. I will always be prone to them, but it's usually because my sugars have gotten out of control. When I get one, my doctor gives me Diflucan (oral pill) for a few days and it clears up.

Re: Yeast Infection Probiotic

@Ainhisg I was having a problem with yeast infections after an antibiotic.  I went to a natural grocery store and got live Acidophillus capsules.  The girl over that dept. explained the cultures weren't "live" unless the word was spelled with a capital "A".

They must be kept in the refrigerator.

Re: Yeast Infection Probiotic

@Gracies Mom , I am the original poster.  My problem started last year after taking round after round of a very strong antibiotic for cellulitis.  I had diabetes testing at that time to rule out that source.  My doctor was 99.9% sure that my recurrent infections were caused by the antibiotics, but she did want to rule out diabetes.  I wasn't prediabetic, either, thank goodness.

Re: Yeast Infection Probiotic

@ECBG , do you know how many CFU's you took?  I have taken acidophilus every day for years--2 billion CFU's.  That's always kept YI's at bay until I went through round after round of a very strong antibiotic last summer. I think I need to take more or take something different.  My current acidophilus is live, and I have done the milk test to verify that it is.

@Ainhisg I'm sorry, I don't remember.  It was before I hit the BIG "M".  I would go by the directions.  It's not a cure, it just keeps the healthy bacteria strong.

Re: Yeast Infection Probiotic

@Ainhisg

Many years ago I would develop a yeast infection every time I took a antibiotic - without fail.   Then someone told me to take Culturelle whenever I took an antibiotic and voila! Problem solved.

Now whenever I fill a prescription for an antibiotic, I automatically buy a box of Culturelle and start taking it immediately. It's much harder to cure the problem once it gets started. Note: Culturelle has changed over the years and now comes in many versions. It's harder to find the original strength, which has 15 billion CFUs of live bacteria. This strength is now called Women's Healthy Balance. That's the one you want. I take 2 a day when I'm taking an antibiotic, then another week or two of one a day once I've finished the antibiotic. This is what works for me.

Never heard of using Probiotics for Yeast infection, it balances the flora and fauna in your body

@I am still oxox

When you take an antibiotic, it kills off the good bacteria along with the bad guys.  So the "flora and fauna" in the v@gina get out of balance, with yeast sometimes taking over.  That's why a probiotic can often help.  It adds back some of the good bacteria to balance things out again.

Re: Yeast Infection Probiotic

Hi, Graciesmommy it's Jackie When ever I started antibiotics I would use the 7 day course of Mycostatin suppositories or cream to prevent a yeast infection.  I would take a probiotic so I didn't get C-diff. go buy the 7 day treatment and get rid of it once and for all. Where's our fix of Remi.

Re: Yeast Infection Probiotic

My gyn put me on RepHresh, which changes the pH.  My pH was off the charts and using this every 3-4 days plus taking a probiotic (I take Andrew Lessman's) has worked for me.
