Re: Welcome to the May Exercise Thread

Good morning everyone.  Looks like a beautiful sunny but cool day coming my way.  I'll accept that, lol.

I'll have to exercise at home this morning.  I have an 11:30 appt which disrupts my fitness center classes.  But movement s movement, I guess.

Enjoy, everyone.

Re: Welcome to the May Exercise Thread

Good morning everyone!  I hope the weather is good where you are.  I'm ready for summer!  I'm not going to the gym today.  My trainer flew to England (where he is from) last night, so I don't have a session with him today.  Hopefully, I can get out of here a bit early this afternoon.

I have to tell you all a story from yesterday's Zumba class.  We had a substitute and all my friends were sad that I wasn't going to get to teach a song and I said, well, I'll ask.  I walked up to her and before I said anything, the sub said "Are you Kelli?  Do you want to teach a song today?"  I told her yes, that I had been doing the warm up and she said Why don't you do that and one other song and I'll jump in!  So I did that--the second song was one that I had only practiced in my head and watched the training video of and I did okay!  The group exercise director also popped in before the class and was frantic that the sub hadn't shown up and told us that we didn't want her teaching because she didn't know the steps and I told her "Well, I can teach" and she said "Oh! Are you Kelli?"  So my plan of being our regular teacher's sub is working LOL!

After the class, one of the new people that was in the class came up to me in the locker room and said "I've never had a zumba instructor who didn't talk and when I saw that you were pointing the direction and previewing the steps, I didn't think I would be able to get it.  But I did and it was great and I loved it!"

I felt so good after she said that--in instructor training, they teach you to give non-verbal cues, so I am getting better at that.  Our sub committed the number one sin though--she kept her back to us the entire class.  They teach you to always face your students unless there is movement (forwards and back or diagnonally) and then you turn with your back to them to show them how to travel and when they catch on, then you turn back around.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.  I'm sleeping in EVERY DAY!

Re: Welcome to the May Exercise Thread

Oh, @DrKelli, congratulations on being successful!  Some things are making sense to me now.  Both of my Zumba instructors do the cues rather than speak but moreso, the woman instructor that I do on Saturday mornings.  And there is one routine that she gets on the floor in the same direction we are and we all look in the mirror.  The guy that I do Body & Sculpt with also does a Zumba class on Tuesday and while he also does cues, he talks a little, too.  His class is pretty full because he is funny, kids around a lot.  Like last week, I was trying to quietly ease out (I almost never do his whole class because by then, it's my third class and I'm pooped) and he yells, 'Stop!  Where ya sneaking off to.  Don't go', lol.  It breaks the monotony.

I like them both, though.  The guy does three classes back to back and two in the afternoon on Tuesday.  Whew!  I'd like to see him in about 20 years when the arthritis sets in.  He seems to be in his forties right now.

Re: Welcome to the May Exercise Thread

Hey everyone, it's Fri-Yay Day!!!    I went out walking this morning, as it was 50 and it was quite pleasant until I had a bug fly into my mouth and swallowed it #triedtothrowup,#so grossedout!   I was able to get water from a fountain at the park so spent some time trying to wash it down.   So disgusting, I continued after that to the golf course and the buffalo ranch right across the way.  They were all out grazing and they make a weird sound.  I have to laugh at my self as I stopped several times because I thought it was me and the bug in my gut!  Smiley Very Happy    I'm so weird!!  Hahah

DrKelli you had an awesome day yesterday.  Your ladies love you and your class!   You'll have a fabulous weekend I think!!

foxxie you too!  We have no plans for the Holiday weekend, need to finish some grass mowing.  The bugs are bad, as soon as we get warmer the black flies are swarming around our heads, eyes, ears, neck!   Ick!!!!!!!!!!!!  Wanted to plant the Cemetery for my mom but I think I should wait, out nights are still quite chilly and I certainly don't want frost to kill the flowers so am waiting a couple more weeks.

Nomless I hope your Friday is good.  Did you get your bedroom all situated with the drapes and bedspread?

MickD how is your son doing?

Lucy how are you recovering?   I hope you're better and DH's interview went well, and the house hunting.

Lunch time!   Have a great day!

Re: Welcome to the May Exercise Thread

DrKelli, happy birthday and congratulations on doing a great job in Zumba class. It sounds like you're earning lots of respect from the instructors and participants. That's awesome. You've worked so hard to learn some great songs.....I hope they continue to give you the opportunity to teach the class a song or toe. Woohoo!

Oh, Bopper, what an unfortunate bug incident. Yuck! Hope you can laugh about it someday. No, I still haven't fixed up my bedroom with the new spread and drapes. Maybe this weekend.

I enjoyed ANW last night. It was fun to see non-atheletes give it a try to remind us how difficult the obstacles really are. And as always, I was so impressed with the support the ANWs give to others, even the novices. It was fun to see them cheering them on and coming up with ways to help the newbies get through obstacles. Very cool.

Re: Welcome to the May Exercise Thread

Good morning everybody.  Looks like a nice day ahead...small possibility of a little shower.

@bopper, double yuck...swallowing a bug!  I know the feeling.  Many years ago, some friends and I were leaving an overnight Clairol hair coloring seminar and I was yakking my head off and a bug flew in my mouth.  I went crazy, lol.  We had just left our hotel room and the maid was up there with the door open.  I ran back up and into the bathroom and rinsed my mouth out.  My friends thought I was crazy because all I could do was point at my mouth before running.  We had a good laugh.

We're going to a musical play this evening at one of the neighboring colleges that should be fun.  The actors are professionals, just using that building.

Zumba time and walking today.  Enjoy your day!

Re: Welcome to the May Exercise Thread

@DrKelli Happy belated birthday!

Got an early run in today 2.75 mi/34 min.

Got a bar mitzvah to go to this morning and I don't know if DS is going to make it. He didn't go to school yesterday, but he was able to go to work for a few hours last night.

Hi, all. Foxxie and Mick, enjoy your events today.

Well, guess what? I did a workout today! I can no longer use the lib work as an excuse for not working out. It was a legitimate reason for a few months, but  no longer. I have to get back into working out at least on 3 off my days off. So today I started slow doing 30 min cardio plus weights. For cardio, I used both the treadmill and bike. It's a start. Now I'll have to stick to my plan and get it done!

Re: Welcome to the May Exercise Thread

Good morning everyone.  I hope the rain hold off for most so that you can go visit your loved ones who have died for our country.  If you're of a certain age, there are many that you wish to observe.  After doing on this day what is meant to me done, then have the fun time.  I know that I am among the many that forget what this day is really about.  Just like Christmas.....we get caught up in the commercialism of it.

Well, the concert was a bust...it was cancelled or rather postponed.  We got to the college where it was being held and there were no cars....we got there about 45 minutes early.  No signs indicating anything.  We left there at 7 which was the time the concert was supposed to start.  Got home and called the person who planned the event and he cavalierly said, " oh, it's been postponed til July."  I asked how was a person supposed to know that.  He said it was on the radio.  I told him I was going to dispute the charge on my credit card.

Have a beautiful day everyone.
